i am stuck between polygamy and polygyny...plz tell me the difference????

Polygamy is a general concept means a prectice of having more than one life partner.
Whereas in case of polygyny, a man has more than one wife.

Polyandry refers to one woman with multiple husbands.

polygamy is the concept of more than one spouse at the same time, while, polygyny is an example in which a man has more that one wife.

Polygyny: When a man is married to more than one wife at a time, the relationship and there is no marriage bond between the wives

Polygamy: is a marriage which includes more than two partners

OR

For understanding
Polygamy is having more that one spouse.
Polygyny is an example in which a man has more that one wife.

Both the terms pertain to family marriage patterns/unions. Polygamy refers to marriage/union of three or more partners/spouses. If we further classify polygamy we arrive at three sub-classifications/forms of polygamy:
1) Polygyny 2) Polyandry 3) Group marriage.

1) Polygyny: One Male + 2 or more females (Permitted in Islam upto 4 wives)
2) Polyandry: One female+ 2 or more males (Forbidden in Islam, examples are found in Tibet)
3) Group Marriage/union: 2 or more males+ 2 or more females

Difference: Polygyny is form of / type of polygamy.
Polygyny is always polygamy but polygamy may or may not be polygyny.

Polygamy is the broader term used for both polygyny and polyandry. So polygamy is two or more women married to one man or vice versa
However polygyny specifically is when one man marry two or more women at a same time. Which is conditionally permissible in Islam
Polyandry is the opposite of polygyny in which one woman marries two or more men at a same time. This tradition Is found in some underdevelop part of South India

polygamy is a type of marriage in which a person has more than one life partner. polygamy is divided into two parts. (i) polygyny (ii) polyandry
polygyny means a man has multiple wives. where as polyandry means a woman has multiple husband at the same time. polygyny is a sociol norm whereas polyandry is a sociol taboo.
