I suggest to take a pen and a paper in hand and atleast answer some question on paper and then tell me was it easy or not.

Believe me, on CSS-Forum or seeing superficially the old papers is far too different from solving it on the day.

I ask the answer of 1st part of the paper.
Use internet and everybook and if you find the answer please let me know.

Similarly Oxidise a 2ndry Alcohol to Aldehyde.....plz.

An Analysis of the Paper

Nomenclature 25 Marks 31% of the paper
General Chemistry 6 Marks (Reaction Types)

Portion wise

Theory of Chemical Bonding 10 Marks (It had a major role earlier)

Kinetics 10 Marks

Carbonyls 14 Marks (Conversions from Alkynes, FC etc)

Natural Products 20

Industrial Org Chem 20

Unexpectedly, Colloids have been asked in Paper-II. Luminescence, Colloids have been asked which is a bit over-stepping from course as the course is already too lengthy.

No question form Organic Halogens, Aromatics,Nitrogen Compounds. Also Main portions of big chapters of course which eat alots of time of the students to prepare have been altogether missed or given very few percentage.

The paper setter made it look like M/Phil Paper. Even M.Phil Organic Chemistry Student cannot prepare so much for one paper.

In MSc/M.Phil, you have to take 4 or 5 papers after each 6 months. So much is not asked in one papers and still FPSC is trying to play hide and seek. Objection is not that the paper is difficult It should justify course at least.

The problem with Sciences in CSS is that they sometime make a peace of cake and then they realize oh no......it was too easy and then next time a bomb is dropped by upsetting everyone. FPSC got the right to test the people but this is a bit unfare.

Even the Chemistry Lecturers donot face such tight papers where the examiner has resorted to play in the corners instead of asking the questions as they should be asked. Seems as if the papers are being made to kill. Candidate finds no way to save the paper. The examiner made 70% paper from 2-3 portion of syllabus and leaving everything behind. Such a paper favors those who by chance have grip on these 2-3 chapters and one who has done everything except these two, then he would be the most awkward person on earth during the paper. This trend is injustice.

Even the examiner gave nomenclature of compounds with more than 10 carbons and atleast 5 such molcules. So he was either favoring or killing. There are so many functional groups, at leats one from each but he would stick to one or two things......so the paper was Peace of Cake for those who knew it and a hell for those who prepared all but left last two portions.

Discouraging trend

If this would be the up coming trend for chemistry then students will not opt for the science subjects. Look towards psycholgy it made many people go crazy and again same is in chemistry. Paper I is very difficult however paper II was much better to attempt than paper I but overall both papers are not according to the level of bachelor studies.

Time is no doubt tough for chemistry, as they ask questions randomly in it, their most intrested area is applications of inorganic chemistry, specifically ceramics, semiconductors , that's was observed in PPSC 2011 paper. but any way good luck to all chemistry aspirants....

@ chintoo i find this answr for engineering ceramics

http://www.dynacer.com/applications/

and for raw material of ceramic products

I prepared too much but FPSC had a big plan i could not even sleep the whole night........

In CSS one bad paper is enough to ruin you ........ Fair play has very limited place with FPSC

These sort of papers are just to kill...

I am feeling very low

I was in the attacking mode in Paper - II but when i saw the paper , i was looking to save it.....it was just a deep whirlpool.........

I prepared Organic too much.....you name a reaction i would show you each and every electron and arrows moving with mechanism........but look at the paper Colloids, Emulsion, Luminescence, Hell like nomenclature, and he asked preparing Aldehyde from a Secondary Alcohol and Hydration of Alkynes.....kind of things........and Calculation of Activation Energy and Gels...........Open net and books to answer preparing Aldehyde from a Secondary Alcohol and that P-orbital question......Oh my God

They set the paper by giving 80% of the course a space of 20% and out of the rest 20% course, they made 80% of the paper and also over-stepped the course

My CSS drowned at the Chemistry Paper-II. Feeling very low and disappointed.

Thinking now to do M Phil ..........even M Phil would not demand so much hard study as CSS

Well i agree what chintoo hav said papers were tough and entirely somewhat out of course. But nonetheless i still managed to ride the storm. Paper 2 in my opinion was jus i dont knw what to say.... Bambozzled.
Anyways i attempted the activation energy question and the question regarding luminisce and gels.
In luminisce i gave those examples which came into my mind like biolumini sonolumini piezolumini n what not and regarding gels i jus stated what they are like a semi solid mass with water and they are classifed physically n chemically n then mentioned some of them like silica gel cooling gel hair gel and cement gel whatnot.

Chintoo2010 Thursday, March 07, 2013 10:33 PM

Best of luck Nate for your last attempt

I left them altogether. I do not know about luminescence and gels. Knew little about gels. But i preferred not to say something wrong. So left them altogether. I was feeling like foot of an elephant on my chest when i had to leave these illogical and unjustified questions in the Organic Paper of CSS. He left all the organic and asked these sort of things.

What you answered about the three orbital thing in Part (a) of Question No. 2?
I am thinking to change the Chemistry with a big heart,,,,,,,,,i love chemistry but chemistry is ruining me too in CSS
I have been saying the same thing since last year on the forum that chemistry paper is not the thing to be opted in CSS, its paper pattern is typical consisting many parts from various areas. I'll suggest you all that please avoid to opt chemistry if you want to go for selected study as it needs a lot of time and selected study can ruin your score. Chemistry was the only subject where I was unable to solve all the questions last year so I am expecting lowest marks in chemistry. :con
