IS COLONIAL MENTALITY IMPEDING PAKISTAN'S PROGRESS?

Outline

1)PREFACE
a) Thesis: Colonial mentality was based on political suppression, economic exploitation and social as well as cultural divisions. It sprouted from a specific mindset of the colonial power to sabotage the rights of colonies. Hence, prolongation of the remains of colonial mentality has been impeding Pakistan's progress on socio-politico-economic fronts.
b) Colonial Mentality- A brief history

2)IMPACTS, EFFECTS AND MANIFESTATIONS (of colonial mentality impeding Pakistan's progress)

a) 3-4 points regarding colonial mentality's effect on political landscape i.e. Landlords, feudal mindset, a kind of aristocracy etc

b) 2-3 points regarding colonial mentality's effect on the economic front i.e. Capitalism (remains of colonial system) added a quotation by Noam Chomsky about capitalism alluding the privatisation of profit while sharing of costs, economic discrepancy b/w the elected and the electorate (leaders are rich while populace is poor), etc.

c) 1-2 points regarding colonial mentality's effects on the social and cultural front i.e. Social fault lines, divide and rule policies, ethnic politics, cultural inferiority complex etc

d) 1-2 points on administrative front. Gave example of Sindh's promulgation of police order of colonial remains instead of sticking with police order 2001.

3)CAUSES (of colonial mentality impeding Pakistan's growth)

a) a few coterie Clinging to the power centres
b) lack of pro-activeness among the proletariat
c) dumbfounded by self assumed superiority of Western culture

Added 2-3 more reasons

4)RECOMMENDATIONS (to reduce the influence of colonial mindset)

a) Significance of the role of media, civil society members, rights activists, literary authorities etc

b) learning from the nations who take pride in their own culture eg china, India etc

c) Importance of education
Added 4-5 more recommendations

5)CONCLUSION

a) colonial mentality represents the mindset of the colonial empires which started the campaign of colonialism to expand their markets.

b) it was based on socio-politico-economic exploitation; hence its remains are significantly impeding Pakistan's progress on all fronts

c) This nation has achieved glory in the form of the establishment of Pakistan by laying hundreds of lives. This hurdle can also be overcome if the problem is identified and the remedial path is taken forthwith; as delineated in the recommendations.

Ended on a positive note.

Is this exactly the way you wrote your outline in the exam? Or is this a random recollection of your essay for the purpose of evaluation?

If answer to the first question is yes, how many pages did you write for the essay? (One page means one side of a leaf)

I am asking these questions to give a more accurate evaluation for your essay.

No, this is not the exact outline. I cannot recall the exact sub-points. I have only written the basic theme.
Overall I guess 13 pages. Outline was of 2.5 pages. I usually write 220-260 words on a leaf.

If your outline was even nearly like this, you will pass.

The only thing weak in this essay is the thesis statement. It doesn't address the topic from the outset. You addressed it in the last line of thesis, and that too cursorily. Had you made a concrete, specific and a more direct thesis statement, I would put all my money on your essay without any questions.

Best of luck!

Thank you for your forthright analysis. I hope my attempt pleases the examiner. After all it's a game of luck.

Your outline is one of the best outlines i have seen on this forum, you have touched almost all main points except language. Good outline, bravo! Pass or fail is in the hand of examiner, but you did excellent work. Dont be discouraged by forum's newbies self-assumed critics. Afterall one have to write everything from scratch, nobody can write 'complete research based essay'. Best of luck

Here is the rough sketch of my outline in today's essay. I opted the following topic. Kindly do comment and suggestions are desperately needed.
Is colonoial mentality impeding Pakistan's growth ?
Introduction
Its been 70 years that we get rid of collnialosm but the remains of colonial system are still existing in our society.......
Remains of colonial system :
》Fedualism
》Bureaucratic Culture
》Elite and aristocracy rules the majority
》Divide and rule formula still exists
》 DIVISIONS IN THE NAME
1• RELIGION
2•ETHNICITY
3•REGIONAL DIVISIONS ETC
》Minority rules majority etc..
Pakistan's progress is not directly linked with colonial mindset but it has some other aspevts as well .
》POLITICAL ISSUES
1. POLITICAL CRISIS
2.LACK OF POLITICAL WILL
3. MILITARY INTERVENTIONS
4.UNSTABLE DEMOCRATIC CULTURE
5.PROVINCIAL DISINTEGRATION etc....
IMPACTS OF THIS COLONIAL MINDSET IN PAKISTAN'S DEVELOPMENT
COMPARISON AND CONTRAST WOTH INDIA :
As India was also a colony of Britain but they get rid of thus colonial mindset .
》BY
1. LAND REFORMS
2.NO MILITARY INTERVENTUONS
3.ESTABLISHING A TRUE DEMOCRATIC CULTURE.
4. REFORMS IN CIVIL SERVICE STRUCTURE ETC.....
WAY FORWARD ...
CONCLUSION .....
