PAPER I

Note: Attempt 5 questions in all, including Question 8, which is compulsory. All questions carry equal marks.

1. Please identify salient features of successful communications.

2. The two step flow model of Communications divides media audience into active and passive members; there is absolutely no reason why there should not be three, four or five step flow of communications. Please comment.

3. How would you differentiate between TV news reporting and Newspaper reporting?

4. The role of media managers in public sector should be media developer and facilitators rather than media controller and news muzzier. In the light of this please evaluate public sector media policy.

5. During 1936 to 1947 number of Muslim newspapers appeared. Elucidate role of any four newspapers for the cause of Pakistan Movement.

6. Examine the organization and functioning of public and private sector news agencies of Pakistan and recommend measures for improvement of their working.

7. Write short notes on the following:
(a) Medium is the message, (b) The Gatekeepers, (c) Role of Opinion leader, (d) Problems of the regional press.


PAPER II

1. Four main factors determine the value of news, timelessness, proximity, size and importance. Briefly comment on each factor.

2. Write short notes on the following:
(a) Beat, (b) Caption, (c) Credit Line, (d) Flash.

3. What is public opinion? Assess the rote of Public Relations in formation of an opinion.

4. Compare and contrast general interest magazines and men’s magazines.

5. Explain how a typical advertising agency operates.

6. Write a detailed Press Release on an imaginative public meeting which turned out to be a law and order situation.

7. What is liable and defamation? Please explain in detail.
