what is meant by expenditure of energy? aircraft which u mentioned will consume solar energy.it can fly forever only if it continues to expend solar energy.

salal Monday, March 08, 2010 08:07 PM

Heat can be transmitted by radiation (heat waves across empty space), convection (flow in air or liquids by mixing of molecules and hot air rising), and conduction ( flow through a solid).

So the best answer is Radiation for MCQ 1

I chose IN DUE TIME, the question mentioned, expenditure, expenditure refers to continued use of energy, which is only possible if the object is working against some forces, if forces are removed, the machine can keep working with the initial energy given to it, like a push to a pendulum.

Sorry I got the question wrong....your argument looks valid!!!

19. Cusec is a unit of :

a) Area
b) Time
c) Distance
d) mass
e) None of these

Cusec is a measure of flow rate and is informal shorthand for cubic feet per second (28.317 litres per second). In the United States it is generally applied to water flow, particularly in rivers. Other informal synonyms are cfs and second-feet.
1 ft3s-1 = 0.028316847m3s-1 1 ft3s-1 = 1 cusec
1 ft3s-1 = 28.316847 litre s-1 1 cubic foot per minute = 1 cufm
1 cufm = 1.699m3h-1 1 cufm = 28.32 litre min-1
1 gallon per minute = 0.7577 litre s-1 1 gallon per minute = 7.577x10-5m3s-1

@salal

Dear what ever work is done is needs energy.
needs energy implies to theexpenditure of energy
so prototype air craft or any other scientific inventions what so ever works expend the energy.
the machine you are reffering to i charges its solar cell means it gains energy and works using and expending that energy it keeps on charging and expending energy for doing some work.

do dear it is quite imposible to work without expenditure of the energy

2. A time can come when we will be able to design a machine which can go on working for ever without the expenditure of energy. Is it possible ?

a) No
b) Yes
c) In due course time
d) Very soon
e) None of these

D and C can be omitted straightaway because we can not say anything about these two options presently.

B: well, one of the basics of mechanics is that to be able to do work, energy must be spent. So this can not be the answer.

A: Umm, what if the basic laws of mechanics change in future? Theories once widely accepted and acknowledged were rejected later on: e.g; Earth's orbital motion etc

E: None of these; might be a democratic answer.. I would have gone with these one, just like we get the polls on geo which has three options:

Han.
Na
Pata nahi :))

This is the trickiest question of the paper, i would like to see more comments on this one.
