my try was as follows:
3) Not only was he a thief but also a murderer
4) They thought the plan would succeed, (or) they thought the plan would be successful
5) It is unlikely that he will win the race
6) My uncle had told me something about it yesterday
8) They forced the driver to stop (or) they prevented the driver from stopping

The sentences could be corrected in many ways. in the two i corrected it in two ways
