Look to The East For Holistic Progress
I tried to make my essay as a convincing argument against West's ignorant attitude towards East in leading the path of progress. I covered the following aspects:
Historical contribution of the East in human civilization. The emergence of Western Societies. Pre and Post- Industrial revolution events that split progress of East from the progress of West. When Progress was looked upon only 'economically' The great West-East divide (affluent western societies, morally rich eastern societies, godless western nations, extremely religious eastern nations, burning economies of East vs. Welfare-based economies of West etc.) Progress as a sum of social, economic and moral well-being which is unequally split between East and the West. |

Although there is no right or wrong when it comes to the way one perceives a particular topic, I invite critical analysis to a very rough sketch of how this essay should have been attempted. Look to the East for a holistic progress -Introduction: That should give a general over-view of what one wants to write -What is progress? -Traits of a progressive nation: In terms of Human Development, Economic Progress, Trade and Commerce, Education, Health etc -Progressiveness of the West -Progression at the cost of Social/Cultural Values and its flaws (special reference to Pakistan) (I included Pakistan- because We is a generic term and we can expand it in any way we want to) -How to progress that lasts long -Examples of Progression while not comprising on the core values: Japan, China, Indonesia -Conclusion

Privatizing higher education generating knowledge..
My attempt:
Privatizing higher education generating knowledge: Outline: 1. Introduction 2. A Statistical Analysis: State of higher Education in Pakistan 3. Views of Dr Atta ur Rehman on Higher Education 4. Comparative Analysis of Private and Public Sector Education a. Cost of Education b. Catering Numbers c. Quality of Education d. Research and Creativity 5. Need of a Mixed Model Approach 6. Remedial Measures 1. Regulate Private Sector Education 2. Check Profit Margins 3. Lay Down Standards for Private Institutions 7. Conclusion In introduction I discussed various education models in West and East and their success rate. I contended that despite private education has become a profit making business yet public sector alone cannot cater the numbers. In the statistical analysis I discussed boost in higher education after the onset of private universities in Pakistan. Then I discussed the views of Dr atta ur Rehman on Higher education and impact of various reforms on phds, publications, number of students etc. Then I draw a comparative analysis of public and private sector with focus on money making issues, poorly paid faculty in Private institutes, lesser focus on research and creativity, and poor infrastructure such as laboratories etc because of lesser interest on the part of owners. I gave recommendations to regulate private sector, check profit margins, lay down standards and argued mixed model approach. In conclusion, I argued that there is no harm in employing private sector higher education . I posited that if private media industry can cope with dual function of entrepreneurship and service delivery then why not higher education. |

@irfan ali
sorry to you Irfan, but you should not restrict the topic to Pakistan as you have mentioned in the initial lines because it was a general and open topic.
