I opted for chemistry in 2005. I got 96/200. It was a very stupid decision on my part to opt for chemistry since I had never studied chemistry at B.Sc. or M.Sc. level before preparing for CSS exam, since I am a computer engineer by qualification.
The low score inflicted a lot of damage on my merit position, and I slipped from may be top 50 to 121st position. However, for those with chemistry in B.Sc. or those having M.Sc. chemistry, it should not be difficult.
same happened with me.. though i am masters in chemistry but i think due to low score of chemistry my merit num is 174 and rare chances of allocation |
Why.....chemistry 's marking is low???? any special reason behind that? if a candidate solve the question conceptually and provide sufficient information of every question then still there are chances of low marking trends??? |

But if you think that you can do well in these circumstances then you should opt it. It may prove to be high scoring. Chemistry paper requires much practice and full concentration hence consumes lot of time, if you can give proper time , yes you can do well in the exam. |
hmmm....Its mean whole syllabus must be prepared, but CSS papers are not that extent tough as last year PPSC lectureship paper, atleast FPSC has provided syllabus for chemistry paper.

I think you have not appeared in CSS that's why you are saying that these papers are not tough, you can't imagine the toughness being out of arena. Yes FPSC has given syllabus which covers organic, inorganic, Physical, Analytical, Industrial, environmental and applied chemistry. |

It makes sense if PPSC papers are more difficult. CSS officers are not supposed to teach Chemistry, but chemistry teachers are required to teach chemistry. Moreover, none of the CSS papers is easy. And if by chance paper is easy, the marking criteria are made more strict so as not to give any undue advantage to anyone. |
the paper have become more conceptual then being theoretical only....so the thing required here is conceptual based study.

Yes, conceptual study is needed and one more thing is required that for chemistry subject no area should be left unstudied so that paper can be attempted well. As in chemistry paper question contains various small portions compiled from various topics, so if a candidates depends upon selected study it will not prove to more fruitful in terms of score. |
Ths paper is so easy to solve if ur all concepts are clear in 1st and 2nd year chemistry coz ths paper contains all questions frm intermediate level.
|
I think paper is that difficult that I expected .... As I have studied chemistry upto Intermediate level.... Due to deep interest in chemistry now I am opting for chemistry for 2013...
If you have studied the chemistry up to intermediate level. Do not take it for CSS. It should be taken only by the candidate who is M.Sc with brilliant concepts in organic chemistry and physical chemistry. I believe that M.SC organic specialized should take it for CSS because such persons are to be considered conceptual.
Ths paper is so easy to solve if ur all concepts are clear in 1st and 2nd year chemistry coz ths paper contains all questions frm intermediate level.
By studying the chemistry of inter level, you may got 100-120 marks but if u want to take more than 150 marks, inter level chemistry is not enough. Go ahead master level foreign books. |
