Arabic is among one of the highest scoring subjects. As well as trend is concerned it has remained scoring and is expected to remain scoring. The reason behind this optimism is the syllabus and paper pattern of this subject.
If you have seen the apaper , the Paper II contains two questions of translation which can give more then 30/40 easily.
40 mcqs ( collective of both papers ) keep on repeating. ( 30+ from these also can be obtained with slight concentrated effort)
30 marks short questions also can give maximum out of these if attempted correctly.
The rest of the paper consist of theoratical questions.
In this way , one can see that paper pattern is of such nature that if one can prepare this paper well , one has very bright prospects of getting good marks.

Secondly , you have asked about notes by Hafiz Arshad.
As well as the material for it's preparation is concerned , I relied on notes by Prof Hafiz Arshad Sahb , a popular name for Arabic in Lahore. Besides this book , the reading of the book Taareekh e Adab e Arabi by Ahmad Hassan Zyat proves highly instrumental in the preparation of this subject.

Thirdly , you asked how to go for its preparation. I started the preparation from Translation Portion. And step by step proceeded ahead.
However , it is better to start from two points. On one hand start preparing translation and on the other take a bird eye view reading of the whole reading material. From reading material I mean if you are using notes of Hafiz Arshad then those or otherwise whatever book you are consulting. First just take a reading. As you finish reading , start preparing questions by question or topic by topic. Meanwhile , on the sidelines satrt it's mcqs preparation and then its short questions. At the end prepare the short essay.
This is how I went for the preparation of this subject in my previous attempt and scored 140.

Can we attempt Arabic Paper in urdu also?
Can we attempt Arabic Paper in urdu also?
Yes Brother! The subjective questions one can attempt in either of the languages, English or Urdu.
Let me Explain .
first take the paper One. 1st question which is compulsory contains 20 MCQs.
Question No# 2 in paper A consists of short questions which we have to attempt in arabic necessarily. Then there are 5 subjective or long questions out of which one has to attempt three. These long or subjective questions are those which one can attempt in english or Urdu.

Now we come towards the paper Two.
Here again 1st questions is of 20 MCQs.
The second question which is also compulsory has two parts. In the first part there are short questions of 10 marks which we have to answer in Arabic. and in second part of the question we have to write a short essay on the given topic in ARABIC.
Then there come two questions on translation . Most , rather all of the aspirants attemt the translation in Urdu.
After these there come long or subjective questions. If one is able to attempt both the questions on translation , one has to attempt a single questions from the subjective or long questions. This one can answer either in english or in Urdu keeping in view one's own convenience.
I hope , i have elaborated in detail.
For further detail as how to start the preparation of arabic , follow the following post also.

Traditionally , the paragraph for translations come from:
Imrul Qais
Zohair Bin Abi Salma.
Most of the aspiorants prepare only these two. however in syllabus there are four poets. Besides these two i mentioned above, the third poet is Hassan bin Thabit and i think the 4th one is Labeed.
