A very moderate Paper, Not much easy and not so much difficult. Now the trend has been changed for sociology papers as well. Best of Luck to All.

Hey,

Could someone give a general outline of the answer to the question on research by objectives? Thanks.
Hey,

Could someone give a general outline of the answer to the question on research by objectives? Thanks.
Intro:
-NGOS and their line of work - Requires research of a specific type

Body:
-Interviews: Personal insight
-Questionnaires: Open and close ended. collective outlook
-Focus Groups: Used in villages etc, but can have incomplete conclusions etc.
-Case studies: Used in cases of refugees/IDPs etc
-Experiments: Not popular, but still used to check awareness etc

All points have advantages and disadvantages discussed along with examples of Thar, Africa and other regions where NGOs are most needed. (Loose examples more or less).

Conclusion: Effectiveness, cost, viability of research needed

Forgot to mention primary sources of data and reliability + validity of each.

That is a very well written answer I must say! Well, I for one didn't read the question properly and didn't pay attention to the research by objective part (sigh). Well this is what I wrote:

Ngos purpose for research: analysing social problems
Types of research methods: qualitative and quantitative
Ngos use qualitative; reasoning: more interactive less rigid
Types of research methods: overt and covert
Covert: tea room trade(example); ethical question mark; generally avoided but done when target population is inaccessible, field of study is sensitive: drug users for eg and if the researcher needs to protect his identity
Tea room trade : Research fraternity criticized the research technique: an invasion of privacy of the study sample but some researchers argued if no harm is done to the sample and research has social value it should be conducted.

Then I discussed the various designs employed by ngos:
1) in depth interviews: structured-semi structured-unstructured
2)focus group discussions
3) participant observation
4)questionnaires
5)case study method

I discussed the merits and demerits of each approach plus how the researcher can effectively use each design to improve his/her research. Maintaining a natural setting in the field during participant observation; avoiding asking leading questions; not letting one person dominate the fgd.

Then I mentioned which method would suit the social problem an ngo would study; participant observation if children are under study; ; understanding learning outcomes in different school settings(objective);
obtaining their consent is important
Fgds if the sample is large plus it gives insight into new behaviour
And mentioned similar examples for case study and interviews

You seem to have covered all of the points (at least to my knowledge) as well. I guess it all boils down to our varying expression(s) and PoVs. As always, it depends on the person checking the paper ;D !

Guys, I am afraid you've got it all wrong. "Research by objective" is a classification of research. Others include research by application(pure and applied), research by inquiry(quantitaive, qualitative) and another. Here you were asked about research by objective specifically so you were supposed to write only about exploratory, explanatory, descriptive and correlational research. just the 4 types.

It seems very critical paper. Geography paper was fine as compare to this one. Are you guys happy with such paper, how did go your paper and what about mcqs?

Not an easy paper but was surely an enjoyable one

Hey,

Thanks for your answer. I had a feeling that I had done something wrong :p I've studied qualitative research methods in my undergrad but unfortunately I didn't remember these types. But I have a query the question is asked from the ngos functionality perspective so do these types come under their operations?

Jabbar Raheem Wednesday, February 24, 2016 06:29 PM

Somebody share mcqs

huzaifa77 Wednesday, February 24, 2016 06:35 PM

They just added NGOs to confuse us. point is most social research is carried out by NGO's. As for the applicability of this these types of research. Research depends on your objective. And objectives are of 4 types. Descriptive just defines an issue. explanatory gives reasons for the issue. Correlational establishes relationship between variables. exploratory is prelimenary research. Now all you had to do was describe these types. Make examples in your head and add word NGO's. Like. "an NGO undertakes a correlational research to understand whether theres a relationship between a dysfunctional family setup and drug abuse"

Haha wow I'm pretty off the mark then it seems. Thankyou for your answer you know your stuff

Mrkhansaab Wednesday, February 24, 2016 06:53 PM

The fact of the matter still remains that they can use different types of mentioned researches (such as interviews, etc.) to gather required information.

As always, the examiner is the final authority on the content and it's relevance or lack thereof.

Time will tell who is right-er! D: :phone

hey, Can someone give a general outline of the answer to Q.no.4 ? Thanks

thanks
thanks
Hey,

The answer that I wrote for question 4 was as follows:

The definition of culture and its characteristics
Then I talked about how culture can be manipulated by the state to enforce its agenda
I gave the examples of Urdu Bengali controversy and the French ban on hijab and religious expression in public.

Regards

Jabbar Raheem Friday, February 26, 2016 08:48 PM

Good but I didn't write any definition or any introduction, I only tried to prove how rigid control over culture becomes a menace... Examples of totalitarian regimes and sociological theories of sorokin, durkheim etc

I didnot mention theories :/ they always strengthen the answer. It was a smart choice on your part. One question though Durkheim as far as I have studied and understood him is in favor of social integration as it promotes social order. How did you incorporate him in your answer, i'm interested.

Jabbar Raheem Friday, February 26, 2016 10:10 PM

Not only integration, Durkhiem supported integration+regulation... According to him balance between both is necessary for social order, when Regulation exceeds permissible limits (ie regarding culture) society falters (over regulated culture becomes a menace)

I've got a question if you would be so kind to answer, can we use examples of Pakistan in this question, about how Pakistanis aren't taught the right history in some cases and the culture is deliberately described wrongly to us?

I'm asking this because although these are good examples, I'm not sure Fpsc would like this type of answer and I don't want to spoil my paper.

Answer to Q.4:

The question amalgamates the economic policy of free market system into sociology. Culture must operate freely by the society and the change must also be decided by the society itself. Only then, a positive and a true culture may emerge.

In case of Pakistan, the state has often tried to maneuver the culture of the society which has resulted in disintegration of the society. Objective resolution by Liaqat Ali khan inculcated spirit of Islamism among the masses, Zia's radicalism inculcated radical ideologies, Bhutto secularism and Socialism and Musharraf's Modernism promoted secularism and modernism respectively. The state has promoted 4 opposing cultures time by time. Consequently, the society has disintegrated and is on the verge of a serious clash.

The example of Turkey in this regard is notable. Turkey only propagated one culture i.e Liberalism and they stick to it.

The Idiot, senseless, egoistic and BC politicians of Pakistan tried to propagate their own ideas in the society neglecting the then present National attributes. Now the fight is inevitable between the secular, liberals, mullahs, and mullah plus because of their difference in social goals. This fight was basically a fight of ideas between liaqat ali khan, zia, bhutto and Musharraf but the regimes introduced it in the society through their cultural policies.

The solution can well be explained by the old age dictum-'hun gannay chuppo'

IamFaisalamankhan Sunday, December 18, 2016 12:58 PM

research process according to ranjit kumar can be done by 3 prespectives
1- by application
a-pure research
b-applied research
2- by objective ### In question this is actually required/asked
a- exploratory research
b- descriptive re....
c- explanatory re.....
d- correlational re....
3-by inquiry method
a- qualitative
b-quantitative

i think this is actuall answer
