[B]Political parties brought out a consensus on the route of Pak-China Economic Corridor during an All Parties Conference chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The APC agreed that the western route of the corridor would be completed first, which would be built from Hasan Abdal to Gwadar, passing through Mianwali, Dera Ismail Khan and Zohb.

The prime minister told the meeting that a parliamentary committee would be formed to monitor the project while working groups would also be formed to address the concerns of all the provinces.

The prime minister said China had provided a unique opportunity in the form of economic corridor.

During the meeting, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal said no new road would be built as part of the project instead different roads would be connected to link them with Khunjrab.

He dispelled the notion about a change in the original route of the Pak-China Economic Corridor.

The minister told the participants of the APC that the Pak-China corridor was not only the name of a road rather it was a portfolio consisted of different projects, including infrastructure, energy, Gwadar port and industrial cooperation.

This was the second APC to be called on the CPEC project. The first APC took place on May 13. The conference has been called to build consensus among political parties and remove any concerns they have regarding the mega project.

"I hope this becomes a tradition that even in the future we sit together to bring about consensus to move forward on national issues," said Sharif in his opening address to the attendants of the meeting.[/B]

I was in a plea that why political parties are creating hurdles in the way of socio-economic development of pakistan. If they had issues they had resolved earlier
*and the other side, why PM NAWAZ keep this agreement secret for the prime ninister is fully aware of the agreements to be signed before their becoming valid.

Many of the politicians were considering that this project will change the former route for which pak- china had signed a mutual treaty. They were of the view especially ANP , excluding KPK from the route will adversely effect the economic consequences of war-torn region however minister of development planning give a formal statement

On the other side some nationalists also condemned this project owing to its vast expenditures.

Recently, a senior reserach fellow of institute of strategic studies regarded protest against CPEC as baseless having no roots.
Then on the other side, assisstant research fellow of chinese social sciences academy stated in an article published in global times

"Reservations regarding security issues are of much importance"
which had a strong influence in finalizing route for this project.

It would be connected via road and rail link from kashger to gwadar....what kind of developments there would be in these areas...beside making rail and road link?

Apart fom rail and road link, pipelines will be spread for transporting oil and gas. Its the extension of china's proposed silk road initiative having long term consequences.

According to a report, "this is the biggest overseas investment by China announced yet and the corridor is expected to be operational within three years and will be a strategic gamechanger in the region, which would go a long way in making Pakistan a richer and stronger entity than ever before."

Othr than transport and gas pipeline facility, it wil provide pakistan with telecommunication and energy resources. It also aims to improve security concerns and mutual development between both countries.

Yes we can say that. Solar power project of bahawalpur is one of the part of CPEC.

ISLAMABAD: The Senate standing committee on finance and revenue has demanded an investigation into alleged violations of the consensus reached at an all-party conference recently that the western route of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor would be followed on priority.

A meeting of the committee, presided over by Ilyas Bilour of the Awami National Party in the absence of its chairman Salim H. Mandviwala, was deliberating on budgetary proposals for the next financial year on Thursday.

Mohsin Aziz of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf said the government had allocated Rs126 billion for eastern route of the CPEC without naming it as such while a negligible Rs20bn was kept for the western route.

He said the government had allocated Rs20bn for Lahore-Abdul Hakeem Road, Rs15.25bn for Multan-Sukkur Motorway, Rs5.5bn for Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway and Rs51bn for some other sections of Karachi-Lahore Motorway – all falling in the plan of the eastern route.

On the contrary, Mr Aziz said, the finance minister announced in his budget speech an allocation of Rs39.5bn for the western route but it was not reflected in the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP). “This is a violation of the APC decision,” he said.

Farhatullah Babar of the PPP supported Mr Aziz’s submissions on allocations, saying this was a ‘political fudging’ and parliament was being misled. He said the matter should be investigated at the level it had been decided. Such decisions could not be expected to have been taken at the bureaucratic level, he added.

“This must be a political decision,” he said and demanded that a project of national importance should not be made controversial.

As senators kept on raising questions over allocations for the CPEC, secretaries of planning and finance did not come up with explanations. Therefore, the committee recommended that a special meeting be convened on the CPEC project to investigate why the APC agreement was being violated and who was behind it.

Ayesha Raza Farooq, the only ruling party senator attending the meeting, said the use of investigation in the committee record would be too harsh and suggested that the minister concerned should be invited to seek explanations.
