Default Shift in American foreign policy

We have witnessed a lot of wars in the history of America. With almost every president starting a new war, U.S.A has been involved in wars all the time. However, we are witnessing a shift in American foreign policy in the Obama regime. The current Obama administration is trying to correct past mistakes and prefers diplomacy over war by opting for the following.
  • Nuclear deal with Iran
  • Opening diplomatic relations with Cuba
  • Decreasing the number of drones on Pakistani soil significantly
  • Ending US led combat mission in Afghanistan
  • Avoiding another war in ISIS occupied territory Syria and Iraq

As far as the banned groups are concerned, Obama administration has rather chosen to train the local forces to fight the banned insurgent groups. To accomplish this, America has opted for the following strategy.
  • Train and Equip Afghan National Army against Afghan Taliban
  • Do more request to Pakistan against TTP
  • Encourage Nigeria to fight Boko Haram
  • Train and Equip Iraqi forces to fight ISIS
  • Arming Israel to fight Hammas

How far would this strategy be successful?

This is indeed not a shift of American foreign policy but it'll be correct to say that it is Obama's govt. who is preferring diplomacy over armed hostily exemple can be quoted in this regard that republicans are against such reconciliations. No one can predict the policy of future governments as white people want nothing but to have dominance over the world.

President Obama is trying to deal the matter of war on terror somewhat diplomatically tactfully but how far he got succeed it is a question of the day. how can we estimate what we got what we have lost.

Very well summarized. The era of face-to-face fights and wars is almost over now. It's the era of proxy wars where you get in bend with enemies of your enemies. With trillions already spent in these wars, USA or any other country cannot afford any more war. Instead, they have adopted the policy of helping and training locals to fight their war. This not only minimizes the US expenses but also improve their goodwill by not directly meddling in other's national affairs. Not to mention that Obama's campaign was based upon the promise of withdrawal of American forces from Afghanistan.
