Kashmir is an ethnically diverse Himalayan region, covering around 86,000 sq miles (138 sq km), and famed for the beauty of its lakes, meadows and snow-capped mountains.

Even before India and Pakistan won their independence from Britain in August 1947, the area was hotly contested.

Under the partition plan provided by the Indian Independence Act, Kashmir was free to accede to either India or Pakistan.

The maharaja (local ruler), Hari Singh, initially wanted Kashmir to become independent - but in October 1947 chose to join India, in return for its help against an invasion of tribesmen from Pakistan.

A war erupted and India approached the United Nations asking it to intervene. The United Nations recommended holding a plebiscite to settle the question of whether the state would join India or Pakistan. However the two countries could not agree to a deal to demilitarise the region before the referendum could be held.

In July 1949, India and Pakistan signed an agreement to establish a ceasefire line as recommended by the UN and the region became divided.

A second war followed in 1965. Then in 1999, India fought a brief but bitter conflict with Pakistani-backed forces.

By that time, India and Pakistan had both declared themselves to be nuclear powers.

Today, Delhi and Islamabad both claim Kashmir in full, but control only parts of it - territories recognised internationally as "Indian-administered Kashmir" and "Pakistan-administered Kashmir".

Why is there so much unrest in the Indian-administered part?
An armed revolt has been waged against Indian rule in the region for three decades, claiming tens of thousands of lives.

India blames Pakistan for stirring the unrest by backing separatist militants in Kashmir - a charge its neighbour denies.

Now a sudden change to Kashmir's status on the Indian side has created further apprehension.

Indian-administered Kashmir has held a special position within the country historically, thanks to Article 370 - a clause in the constitution which gave it significant autonomy, including its own constitution, a separate flag, and independence over all matters except foreign affairs, defence and communications.

On 5 August, India revoked that seven-decade-long privileged status - as the governing party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), had promised in its 2019 election manifesto. The Hindu nationalist BJP has long opposed Article 370 and had repeatedly called for its abolishment.

Telephone networks and the internet were cut off in the region in the days before the presidential order was announced. Public gatherings were banned, and tens of thousands of troops were sent in. Tourists were told to leave Kashmir under warnings of a terror threat.

Humm ! It's very complext issue that should be resovle according the resolution of UNO and it is the responsitbilty of UNO to get the people of Kashmir thier right ...

Pith of the issue, “Human Rights Violations” in Kashmir have sought mindful attention of the entire globe. Use of pellet guns, tear gas shells, gunpowder and baton charge are the deadly human rights violations, Indian force have been committing in the Indian occupied Kashmir since last seventy years. Now revocation of “35-A”and article “370” portrays clear animosity of India for the whole region of South Asia. Third generation of Kashmiris who witnessed martyrdom, torture, rape and killing of thousands of their elders will definitely react back for the protection of their rights and self-determination.

How inexpensive the souls of the Kashmiris are????

Keeping aside the world's *reaction over this heinous crime of revocation, it’s evident that Kashmiris have nothing to lose and Pakistan is also in the same swing. Most importantly, Pakistan Army galvanized by seventeen years of war against terror at their back has potential to plunge into any kind of war which India desires, is also a predicament of Indian ignited disaster in the region.

Question is, Why India took this extreme step of revocation?

Here is very interesting analysis of the regional politics. Honeymoon period between India and USA started after Bombay attacks and Pakistan’s prime position in the region was intended to be gradually awarded to India. This dragged India into skepticism coupled with its hegemonic designs in the region. Pakistan at that time showed restraint keeping in view its own deteriorating situation of law and order. Resultantly, India took this opportunity not up to the limits of USA but also dreamed to have say in the affairs of Afghanistan. This period was fragile and its evaporation started with an announcement from “White House” that USA is determined to withdraw its forces from Afghanistan.

Now the equation of regional politics is changing rapidly. Pakistan is back in the game. In fact, its evident like doomsday that USA cannot exit from Afghanistan without Pakistan’s mediation leading towards Afghan Taliban-Pakistan Nexus. So, India can easily forecast 1990’s mini game of Pakistan in the Region. Burgeoning role of Pakistan in international affairs particularly in Afghanistan is indigestive to India. Government of Afghan Taliban in Afghanistan in coming couple of years is also a source of frustration for India. Cordially relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan will minimize the role India in the region resulting into India’s regional isolation.

So, the matter of the fact is deep frustration of Modi’s government as this act of revocation stands the logic. Now it’s time for the International community to pressurize India in the wake of Kashmir issue in order to eradicate Nazi’s approach. No doubt, its testing time for the champions of human rights that how they will react and protect rights of Kashmiris.
