I am just knocked in my sideways reading the article as well as comments. How come people who aspires to serve in Civil services of Pakistan can have that hollow & off the chump understanding of historically crucial events?? The Bengal War since its very outset was lopsided towards India & Bengali traitors, given the Geopolitical advantage. However, the case was different for Pakistan, for whom it was impossible to win a loosen ground without massive air & superior ground support. Also, our army lacked an international ally like Russia to supply cover or act as backing.Overall, that was a catch-22 situation, where no matter what you try you are bound to doom just like USA in Vietnam,Russia in Afghanistan or India itself in Kashmir. The War of 1971,was not a military failure rather it was a collective failure of state's economic, administrative, distributive & more importantly political & foreign policies.Analyzing the conclusion of 1971,i noted that, what India & Bengalis really won from it? From Bengali perspective,it was just reduced to a coastal nation with no regional or international strature or say. From indian perspective,it was a Pyrrhic victory where it spent more then what it got.It also got an inconsequential ally which is totally depended on it & highly burdens its economy.Niether Bengal can provide military or economic support to India in any case nor it can provide India with any sort of political influence. Also,it mounted up hostility for india in Pakistani hearrts which is likely to burgeon for generations to come and has its dangerous repercussions .For Pakistan,Bengal was never a place of off the charts importance, our interest in it was limited since outset.Though it has great strategical importance but given the fact with good economy one can buy military bases in Cambodia,Myanmar,Bhutan the importance of Bengal evaporates as it has nothing to offer us,niether then nor now ☺
But if one wants to blame it on single person surely that is "Power-monger Bhutto" who deprived Mujeeb of his due rights and end up loosing a wing of state. These are my views, my analysis, one is free to give me flak but what i found in the comment section, was just limited & hollow knowledge with a touch of little understanding of events and analyzing it in keeping with juxtaposition to today's world. You are free to disagree fellows
