Default Flabbergasted at the Poverty picture.

Dard ki tasveer , Faryaad ki awaz .

The deradful news of women in Karachi’s’ Khuda ki Basti’ giving their beloved children to Edhi oprphan houses is a despicable reminder of the abysmal poverty in our country.
Similar cases have erupted in the past when parents fed up of extreme indigency either left their children on foothpaths,on sale (read auctioned) or gave to edhi.
Earlier such cases made news from remote areas of the country.but it seems now that like God ,poverty is omnipresent in Pakistan. The planning commission in its nine-point report has made suggestion to the Government(PM and President) to impose capital gains tax on property, agriculture and service sector.it already has cut subsidies on energy, fuel ,electricity and food items. it however has made no mention on cutting expenditure and how will it add more value added products in pakistan’s economic portfolio. The govt’s recent draft on poverty reduction strategy highlights the oft-repeated mantra of creating jobs in agricultutre, industrial and manufacture. This will diversify the distribution of income among large swathes of population and also ameliorate their conditions. The soon to come much touted albeit controversial Benazir income support programme will also serve the purpose of alleviating poverty.
Some typical shibboleths which we often write in our essays to alleviate, reduce and eradicate poverty are given below.
Reduce corruption.increase spending in social sector.increase the budgetary allocation of Public sector development programme, education budget.enhance skills of our manpower so that it helps to fetch them jobs here and abroad.reduce defence budget and etc.
The need of the hour is to match words with deeds and implementation. All policies look pretty on paper.Let’s see how pretty they are in practice.I dare say we shouldn’t allow history to judge us this time.

Actually the real problem is not poverty it is bad-intention.PPP has come to power after 14 years.Indubitably it owes a lot to its party workers. They deserve the share of their toil. All tools of mal-administration and poor-governance are in its box.most of them had a small chance of making debut in 1988.this time they are here to score.I shouldn’t be mistaken an anti-ppp.The party has made itself a laughing stock by repeatedly reneging on its pledges.Nevertheless it is also not a populist party.currently it is a mixture of feudals-cum-pirs from Sindh and Punjab.Still i am an optimist and hope against hope.We as a nation will show resilience and bring this country out of the whirlpool. The govt belonging to any party should be given breathing space. It will only be then that It will deliver efficiently and effectively. It really is ironic that ppp lost its chair-person in December.that was a colossal loss mourned by all the nation. Also the govt inherited myriad problems to tackle.it is acknowledged that initially the government faced dreadful challenges and without any breathing space available.without learning anything from mistakes of the previous govt it has thouhgtlessly continued their policies and people from establishment have still made their mark.I hope within a year or two we will see an end to the politics of patronage.

My heart aches at the plight of poor in our country.i have swallowed hot words coming to the brink of my lips.Hats off to all those who have made even a single poor soul smile in this country.one little act of kindness is better than feelings of love for all mankind.

Regards ,

Sikander

Default Poverty-stricken parents abandon their children

@Sikander
With reference to you post mr.Sikander it seems that you have adopted the dual role of denouncing PPP and healing the wounds of people through wishful thinking.

I beg to differ from you.First their needs some brainwashing to be done throughout pakistan. The people (especially Bureaucrats-who have an inexplicable aversion to the rule of politicians) have never held politicians in high-esteem.Why on earth then they expect them to deliver instantly and come to the mark of their expectaqtions? Is it for this reason that in feb 18 elections they casted their ballot prudently.i state on record that i question the wisdom of our people. You know mr sikander that nowhere in the world bureaucracy is asked to opine on politics. The role of it is restricted to serve as a backbone of govt.this is an easy asignment.

Now i return to your topic.you know what mr.sikander that ours is a society devoid of philanthropy.Tellingly they have scant presence but that does not account for the requirements of pakistan.you didn't mention the extravagance of our politicians. Was any protest waged and procession taken out?Ahhh with grief i announce that we have severely been bruised by poverty, indigency and want of resources.even such demonstration of our fundamental rights now seems a painstaking task.We were expecting a judicial revolution.some binge of which was observed after the reinstatement of (deposed)CJ-iftikhar Ch.no we are not prepared for the worst yet.Whey then are mothers abandoning their children when so much is left to be seen.
What the civil society does i will ask it to a favour to us.
HAMAIN Dafan Karo kay saans lain.

.Democracy is a system which ensures that we shall be governed no better than we deserve.

The dilemma of poverty is not that simple friends.I know how diffiult it is in these testing times to keep the wolf away from the door. This malady is far more agonising than our expectation. The news of parents abandoning their children is slur on our societal values. Why? It is a grim reminder that we have lost two important things.our SELF and enjoyment of our intimate realtions. Our family institution is feeling the pinch of gruelling survival.our mothers are abandoning their beloved children.our family bonds are weaning.Motherhood a position of pride, endurance ,love and care is now emotionless.so is the case with Fatherhood. We all remember the astonishing news of a man slaughtering her three daughters. He did so on the belief that he no longer had the strength to take care of them and it was the best solution to absolve from the responsibility. We have honour killings with brothers killing sisters on the pretext of adultery.Though an abominable tribal custom but still occupies space in our feudal aristocratic society.it can be sighed with utter grief that our society’s microcosm---family institution is suffering. Many factors account for this rot permeating our society. We have poverty, despondency a loss of self , apathy and aloofness. Our society is divided on several lines. The class difference is so conspicuous.the divide between rich and poor is ever increasing. The efforts of government to promote egalitarianism are proving futile.

The loss of ‘Self’ is most palpable in the society. It is said that a persons with a developed self is self-concious.He behaves independently, prudently, responds to different circumstances, tackles trauma and performs in challenging conditions. He also learns to manage his daily needs, plan his future and live within his means. He keeps in touch with the family members, relatives, neighbours and surroundings.but contrary to this a weak self is doing much against the desired. His aloofness, apathy and despondency creates an unbridgeable chasm between him and his acquaintances.
Such a condition can intice suicide, cold blooded murder or vandalism.such a person if not helped in time augments his frustration manifold and becomes a threat to the society. The need of the hour is to integrate the Self in the man and let him realize that he can do a whole lot of things.this will also revive his confidence in himself.

Hi friends
I believe it is the collective obligation of a society; we have a reason for this living. We literally have forgotten the joy of giving something to someone who is needy. Charity begins at home. We should wait for such events or accidents to happen and then take any action? Why can’t we do it in our own way? We wait for events to greet each other, most of the people wait for Ramadan to give Fitra or zakat.

I don’t BELIEVE that govt would really implement any of its “Ambitious” programs, rather producing false monetary scandals, creating economic crisis, these are their forte. Just follow Islamic teachings, help each other, and keep fulfilling your duties and responsibilities which are due on you as a human being. It’s between Allah and you; there you go you will be a happy man. At least you won’t be ashamed in your own eyes.
