Default What do you think is a prestigious job/ profession?

Does the prestige of the job depend on its contribution to the society, the money it pays or on the self satisfaction it brings?

Is it considered prestigious just to have a job nowadays?

Dear brother! I hope you to be as fit as fiddle!

If we try to understand the meaning of the word PRESTIGE, according to Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary, it says
"the respect and admiration that sb/sth has because of their social position, or what they have done; status".

Literally, a prestige job is one that brings you admiration and respect because of what you've done or your social standing. So it's about all - your contribution to the society, the money it pays, and the sense of self satisfaction it brings - depending on a person's own perception of the case.
In today's world of hustle and bustle, people relate the prestige of the job to the money and (fake) reputation it brings to them, not self satisfaction.
They've turned like robots, and more materialistic in kind.
The funny side of the case is that the trend-setters (ie the West) they try to follow in their pursuit of prestige, have started to take recourse to spirituality now, but we'd still like to discomfort ourselves by such an attitude.

So, if you mean to ask whether the meaning of prestige in today's world is taken to mean the fake status and money it brings, then the answer is YES. But if you ask my personal opinion on the same account, the answer of course is a big NO. I'd like to go with the idea of self-satisfaction instead.

Prestige is a subjective term and its frame of reference decides about its parameters. Parameters of prestige vary from cluster to cluster in each society. Depending on society cluster / class one can define prestige. In one class power is the sign of prestige and in another money replaces the same. There are some classes where piousness and religiousness is sign of prestige. One can’t define prestige in absolute terms rather it is a relative term and keeps on changing from society to society and even from class to class within the same society. That is why Bureaucracy is considered as the collection of prestigious civil servants in one sector and same bureaucracy same civil servants are considered as evils, hateable, and corrupt figures in other sectors of the society.

Normally bureaucracy is comparatively prestigious in rural areas.

Corporate job is prestigious in urban developed areas.

So audience / end users / target masses / clusters of societies decide about the prestige.

Regards

Default Prersigious means most soughted

Here i used word prestigious not in a sense of respect, i had conceived it in the meanings of most sought after job just to know that in which direction our young generation is interest. Whether it is for the sake of self interest, money, country or respect/authority.
