Default Renaming NWFP

NWFP' name is now KHYBER PAKHTOONKHA,the people across the country hailed the decision taken by present democratic dispensation..but i could not understand why PML(N)took so much time to accept this demand of Nwfp'People...if they say there are 52%pakhtuns and 48%other ethnical groups, then why Punjab is Named as Punjab,as there are also considerable size of Sariakis&urdu speaking groups...??

because this wasn't the demand of the majority of people in NWFP...this was just an issue put forward by ANP who is known for raising non-issues instead of focusing on the real problems...also u r right that punjab has a majority of saraiki speaking people but both punjab and sindh r named after rivers instead of ethnic majorities in those areas...NWFP has been facing a multitude of problems for a very long time...these type of efforts shud have been made to solve those problems...the govt still hasn't been able to fully give relief to the IDPs...i got a chance to visit swat a while back and the people there r still living in a sorry state...also the constant threat of terrorism in the province doesn't allow the people to live freely...there r countless other problems in the province too..but ANP chose to ignore all of them and only worked towards putting forward their prejudice and nationalist agendas...

Well to tell you, I am not Pathan n neither from khyber pakhoonkhwah, But I do think it was the and it is the right of the people of that province to name it as they want, keeping in mind that its new name does not give any sense of getting distant or separate from federation, i.e as pakhtoonistan could be considered because this name was used for separate Pakhtton country there at time of partition by Badshah Khan (Abdul Ghaffar Khan Gandhi, known as Bacha Khan). So they have the right to name it as they want, Secondly in case of punjab the example you give does not fit fully. Punjab is not name of any Ethinc territory or Punjabi is not a name of Ethnic group, its name of land irrigated by five rivers. and whole Punjab including Sraiki belt is irrigated by Five rivers (not now but when it was ) still not some parts like Khushab and Jhang are irrigated by Jehlum River and River Ravi (whatever it remains) irrigates some sraiki Areas. So on that bases it is called Punjab and not on any ethnic bases. Similarly Sind province exclusively irrigated by Sind river and its name based on that and not on any ethnic group. You may object then why Pakhtoonkhwah based on some ethnic group, the answer could be its nothing harm to call an area based on its ethnicity, as Balochistan is called. And also again because they have the right to name it as they want.

And about PML N point of view it was mostly because of Hazara division which is not Pakhtoon in majority but There's strong hold of PML N, and people of this division did not want to be called Pakhtoon which automatically will come to them after the name of the Province. BUt finally it's majority which should decide the name of any province and not minority.

I hope this explanation may answer some of if not all your confusions

i think it is right decision at right time.NWFP is being ruled by ANP so they have the right to select the name of their province according to their will.
Punjab is a common world which mean land of five river.I think there is need to divide Punjab into 3 separate provinces

1. central Punjab with Lahore as capital
2.Multan region comprising 13 districts with Multan as capital
3. Pothohar region with Rawalpindi as Capital

These new proposed provinces should not be named on ethnic base

Punjab should not be divided, and if it is to be then sind province should also be divide into:

1. Jinnahabad(kirachi)

2. Ghotki,sukhar,shikarpir,khairpur,umerkot.sanghar and tharparkar

3. rest of sind.

Similarly balouchistan is also a big provice,it should also be divided then.

from administration point of view and for equal division of resources among all regions It is good to make small provinces, no harm in that, But problem is that It will take a lot of resources to make new provinces, their Admin, buildings, employees. such things.
