Foreign aid is useful in a sense if it is utilized in befitting manner , actually it is not an aid it is a debt on country which has to be repaid to the issuing state ,utilization in correct manner is necessary because correct projects can refund all money e.g Gawadr port issue ,building of expo centers and industries . But at this moment where our country is already in debt ,it should refrain from foreign aid .our country is rich in resources e.g agriculture etc

Default foreign aid a curse or not

In reality foreign aid is not a curse, if any country provide as aid so it depend upon us that how we are utilizing it if the the aid is utilizing in wrong way than it is absolutely will give us deleterious effects. But the question arise that why in Pakistan aid is not implementing in correct direction the simple answer is that corruption which have to be eradicate first then we can hope that aid will be utilize for the development of our country...

Foreign Aid is a curse as the receiving country forgets self reliance. In Pakistan our rulers think it a blessing as they know that they have few years to rule so they adopt 'passing the day policy' and ignore that someone (masses) have to pay back these aid or loans by succumbing to inflation, price-hike, corruption etc.

Foreign aid should never be availed.
Reasons :

1. There is a concept of "No free lunch in economics", by availing foreign aid, you jeopardize your sovereignty, integrity and freedom.

2. By taking money from external sources, you show, sign of weakness. Weakness is always exploited by enemy.

3. Accept death over foreign aid. Don't sell yourself. Take example of Pakistan, our resources were limited, right from inception, yet we entered into an arms race with India. Theoretically, we cannot compete with India. India has a population of 1200 Million as against that of 180 Million of Pakistan. India's GDP is 1.80 trillion, it's defense spending is 40 billion dollars and reserves of 200 Billion. What does this mean? India's population is 8 times that of Pakistan, it's economy is 6 - 7 times as big as Pakistan. It's reserves are 30 times, that of Pakistan. In simple words, if we engage with India, in a war, our reserves cannot last more then one week, while India has enough reserves to keep us locked in a conventional war. As far as nuclear war is concerned, we are 10 times, lesser in number, in nuclear warfare, death toll on Pakistan side, would be much highers, considering our lack of "strategic depth". Also, Pakistan is not naturally gifted. Balochistan, Sindh, South Punjab are veritable deserts. We have little resource. India on the contrary has one of the most fertile regions in it's domination. The result is that it can foot the bill of maintaining an army, whereas we cannot afford to sustain an army. Still, we have strategic concerns that warrant the maintenance of standing army. But how can we fund this army? Our major budget outlay is in defense. So, what to do? Remember, Soviet Union had more nuclear weapons, better aircrafts and a more ammunition then US during the height of cold war, but it's economy was fragile. US never landed any bomb in USSR, it simply let it implode. USSR kept on "investing" in arms, at the end, it was broke. Economic difficulties led to break up of Soviet Union. Weak economies, implode nations, a strong economy is a major pre - requisite for maintaining defense etc. Now, in order to fund our expenditures, we had to take loans, aids etc from US, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, but they always compromised our sovereignty. U2 incident during soviet era, clearly showed that we had become a client state of US. Now, even our leadership condemns Drone attacks, but they can't survive a day without foreign aid. End result, we take loans IMF, allow people like Raymond Davis, to roam freely inside Pakistan, kill people and then go away conveniently, we also allow US marines to enter deep inside Pakistan and kill Osama bin laden. What is this? this is called pawning.

Foreign aid, is generally obtained by countries, who have totally wrong priorities. Those countries end up broke and they are then exploited by other countries. Soviet Union, again is a classical example. By engaging in an arms race, with a weak economy, USSR imploded. Had Soviets realized, that they had little funds, they would have reformed themselves. Same goes for Pakistan. We have no schools, No Universities of international repute. We have exceedingly poor health care and education, but we invest in maintaining a huge military force. Poor education, means more talibans, relgious fanatics with little avenues of employment. These either indulge in anti state activities or take up robbing, looting and plundering innocent people. Both, ways people suffer. We have to realize, that we have to curtail our expenditure, stop reliance on foreign aid. How can we fight with india, when we cannot fight with poverty, ignorance and illiteracy.

I would like to summarize my points

1. Nations with skewed, distorted or outrightly wrong priorities end up in "misallocating" their resources.

2. Poor countries, have little resources natural or man - made. The first thing is to realize, that we do not have resources, then work for increasing those resources. For example, we are told that Pakistan is blessed with everything. This is parochial thinking at it's height. Pakistan is a desert. Only North Punjab and KPK are fertile. We have no oil and little gas is left. We have only one resource, that is human resource. We have lots of hands, that if "educated" and provided with skills can become productive resource. But, instead of focusing of education, we are more concerned with defense. Hence, we mis allocate resources. The net result is that we end up with foreign aid. Foreign aid means loss of sovereignty, loss of integrity and loss of repute. As a result, our defense, which siphons all our funds, is also compromised example, drone attacks, OBL incident, U2 incident.

The need is to realize, that foreign aid, means wrong decision making. Wrong decision result from wrong assumptions. Wrong assumption, result from wrong facts, wrong interpretation of reality.

Foreign aid is a curse for our country because it is not used for the welfare of the people. Corruption is made. All the money goes in the pockets of politicians.

Today, our world has unfolded itself to an epoch of globalisation. Traditional ideas of government function and responsibilitiy (policing and providing security by maintaining law and order) have been changed radically, due to infleunces left over by globalistaion.Globalisation will go on in an unrestricted way in near future and has progressed ,already. It has led to exhange and and communication of not only socio-political ideas governing current world order but also movement of capital and human resource acros the national geographic boundaries. The reason behind the successful penetration of the notion of globalisation into each and every country across the globe, except some hard-liners likey north korea and iran , is the common belief that national resources are not evenly distributed amongst the nations of the world ,and every country is dependent on another country's resources in one way or another. So natural skewed distribution of resources across the various countries of the world has augmented the phenomenon of globalisation and it had consequently surfaced the notions of foriegn aid and trade as one of its leading repurcussions. Yes, one can point towards the process of globalistaion as no more than hegemony of few cultures, societies, currencies over the prevailing global socio-economic polity. As globalisation itself being double edged sword as said by many, there is no reason to not object over the foriegn aid assisstance given to a country. It has been said that globalised village leaders and sustainers are a few one and the sustenance of current world order will certainly benefit them, both politically and economically .In the same way in which some tribal leaders, in villages of past period, used to control and manipulate the masses by giving them loans and, in turn ,bullying them into thier own motives, the current major players of the world has used the foriegn aid as a trumpt card to rule indirectly ,at the behest of globalisation. The foriegn aid given to a reciepient country by a donor country have become a political meal today .It has made the reciepeint country overridden with public debts and has made more vulnerable to economic setbacks, resultantly.Often foriegn aid reduces the exploration and research activities for resources in a reciepient country which is a real remedy for its problems ,in many circumstances.More importantly , when alien aid disbursement on infrastructure development and human resource development is not carried on , and instead used by a few in corridors of power, in irresponsible way in the absence of effective auditing and accountablity mechanism ,that most of aid reciepient country lacks, the desired goals and objectives cannot be achieved upto a satisfactory level.what needs today in the domain of foriegn aid assisstance given to receipient country is to divert them into a workable and sound socio-economic status raising plans , in order to promote the human resource development .It is because of the undeveloped and unskiled human resource which leads to unexploration and untapping of natural resources,if any present in a country, which leads to unemployment and poverty and makes the country less rellisient to economic pitfalls.South korea ,japan and china are a leading example in this regard.former two has very meager natural resources in form of power, mineral or agriculture etc but thier deep acute attention over huan resource development and skilled labour has profitted them upto such an extent both are among the top ten economies of the world.though china has rich mineral and coal deposits but it was thier hardworking and skilled labour that uplifted chinnese economic system right from the rubble of war-torn and drug traffickling affected china.ALmost every emerging economy of the world has once recieved foriegn aid during thier lifetime ,it was thier staunch and firm adhermement to their own peoples' betterment purpose that has led them out of impasse. So far as pakistan is concerned, foriegn aid comes largely from three countries usa, china and saudi arabia though usa makes a chunk of the amount. The aid given to pakistan was not on humantarian basis or economic uplift of the poor and impoverished segments of the populace but to achieve some strategic motives in the region.the aid granted by china though are not viewed through the prism of mistrust in pakistani people but some geo-political strategist include it as a part of strings of pearl policy of china to secure its petroleum supply through arabian sea.In most of cases the foriegn aid hasnot been accorded in a fair transparent manner and kept them from public sight and local media.to add more the grievances ,beaurucratic government system and overcentralized economic deveopment planning, by planning and commission division of the country, has further added feul to the fire. Therefore ,the hopes of uplifting and extripating poverty from country fell short of reality through foriegn aid.no real mechanism of resource development and exploration have been devised by successive regimes that mainly are military ones.If foriegn aid had chanelled towards agricultural sector reforms and moderinisation, and research in this sector , majority of our population would have been not only freed from land activities but also more revenue generation to them and more time left for villagers to move towards the industrial sector. this is reason behind slow pace of urbanisation of town and villages in pakistan and resultant unemployment as our farmers allocate thier most time to agribusiness and few to other activities and earn little .

Foreign aid may have some pleasing and tranquilizerfunction between the two states provided it is given for no ulterior motives and only on humantarian grounds by a donor country.a part of this success lies also depends upon the allocation and disbursement of these funds on various projects envisaged by the government in power. As globalisation has encroached deep into the states's various domains ,one shoud hope amidst the appehension that its positive effects will be garnered by both the major players and minor players
of the world to harness and achieve its true and positive lasting effects.

Default Foreign Aid

Foreign Aid is essential for most of the developing countries, where the governments are short of funds. However, the developing countries must strive hard to utilize their own resources instead of completely relying on foreign aid.

Extreme of anything is hazardous.

Debt taken as a short term remedy is useful only in case of parallel long term planing. but in countries like Pakistan this option is used or saying more appropriately abused for vested interests with no parallel long term planing. Every new govt seeks for a plan which can sustain for five years(a normal tenure) and provides more for kickbacks. as a suggestion i think if a tenure of regime increases to ten years then only the responsible would think of long term planing.

in present conditions being at hands of poppycock politicians and their retinues, foreign debt which otherwise could help boost our economy has become curse.

Generally speaking, relying on aid is not good, one should be self sufficient be it a state or an individual. But I won't call foreign aid as a curse. It all depends on the circumstances & how you manage & utilize the aid.
