Our cheif of armi staff visited the Russia. He invited also Russian President in Pakistan. What kind of benifits we can achieve by keeping relations with Russia?. how Pak Russia relations effect the Afgan War?
Is there is a signal of change in foregin Policy of Pakistan? looking answer from senior members of css forum..

I think this is a very good thinking on part of our strategists. We are war weary people-a war that was a self-generated one, and we need to establish working relations with almost every powerful country in general and with our regional partners especially. We are trying to establish improved relations with India, then why nor Russia??

strategic relationship with russia

efforts of pakistani government to establish strategic and stable relationship with russia are plusible. inspite of all blunders ie bad governance, leadership crisis this political democratic setup has taken gigantic step to establish strategic relations with russia.this relationship can stabilise pakistan domestically and internationaly.usa pakistan relations hardly get smooth pace.reaeated usa attacks and lack of trust between two countries are signs on unnatrural alliance.working relationship with russia will enhnace pakistan,s credibility internationally and a message for usa that pakistan is not an easy prey

Russia always want to create a good relationship with Pakistan since it inception. But the gap in relationship ever caused due to Pakistan. In 1950's Russia first invited for her visit but our first P.M choose America then in Soviet Union war. If we study the globe we will come to know the strategic point of view why Russia always want to good relationship with Pakistan

During 1950s Russia was part of USSR, hope you are able to mark difference between USSR and Russia :). Even though USSR's politics and economy was overwhelmingly dominated by Russians, USSR was not just Russia in 1950s. For example most of the Muslim republics of Central Asia today; Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan etc were part of USSR at that time exactly as Russia was its part, the most famous USSR leader Joseph Stalin was a Georgian, not Russian :D. Therefore it should be understood in terms that during 1950s, USSR wanted to build up relations with Pakistan and bring it into its sphere of global influence, not Russia as of today :D. ham ne urdu main tamam USSR ke liye aik hee lafz Roos bana rakha hai isi liye ham aksar Russia aur USSR ko separate karne main ghalti kar jaate hain (Russia kaa purana asli naam Rus tha). It must be understood that although Russia of today kept most of the industrial setup and military power of former USSR, it is still an emerging power struggling in many areas.

continues and decimating attacks from afghan border backed by CIA and NATO (as per news that TTP insurgents are treated in NATO/RAW controlled hospital in Afghanistan) making army sick of US-Pk ties. They need to manage a power equilibrium with india using SCO camp. I think it's a bright step leading to SCO camp membership. 2nd Army is reluctant to manage relations with US as our right wings parties and 90% nation is against this marriage :pp . I hope army is watching future. and government is just managing their future presence in Pakistan by using provincial elections. as they did their best to make Pakistani a dead bodies bags. :(
Thanks

It is, infactly, in interest of pakistan to extend its economic and military ties with Russia in order to cope with increasing influence of America in the region. Pakistan, Iran and Russia are suspicious of American presenceeven after 2014 in Afghanistan. So these countries need to take unanimous stance on this development. Secondly, Russia is in favor of Pak-Iran gas pipeline. Russia is not in favor of TAPI as it wants to strengthen its influence over energy resources of central asia.

In my opinion it is the best we can have at this time.

1- In moderating the relation with US (America is Russis`s worst enemy)

2- Russia is an emerging military super power while US is declining both in military and economy (consistently supporting Afghan Talibans against US. They are supporting afghan taliban and us is supporting TTP)

3- Russia and china have joint motive in reducing american influence in the world
(both of these countries have declined security council resolution of NATO and american interference in Syria for the 3rd consecutive time using their veto power)

and at this time we certainly need FRIENDS not "allies"

not the arny cheif, our air cheif has visited the Russia. Well to me this will not do any good. Because it takes time when countries become strong friends like Pak and China. It will be good for future indeed.

China and Pakistan are still not strong friends. Countries don't take much or lesser time in developing relations like friendship. World is changing rapidly I can see Russia and Pakistan would engage in collaborative interest seek in near future.
