Chenab Formula:
‘The river Chenab comes out from Himalayan range of Kullus in the extreme north of Kishtwar in Doda district (Jammu province) with high mountain range of Himachal (India) adjoining in the background. It flows through the mountainous areas of Doda, Ramban, Surukot, Salat, Reasi, Akhnoor and enters into Punjab (Pakistan) at Head Marala where a big headwork has been built facilitating construction of two big channels. India has built Salal dam on it under Indus Water Treaty. On the right bank of it is stretched half of mountainous Doda district, the entire Gulab Garh tehsil of Udhampur district, at a very long distance fall the districts of Rajouri and Poonch all being the Muslim majority areas contiguously linked with Kashmir province which has six districts with 98 percent Muslim population. On the left bank of Chenab fall the beautiful Tehsils of Bhadarwah, Kishtwar having majority Muslim population, and at far away starts the Hindu majority districts of Udhampur, Jammu and Kathua. To sum up, out of six districts of Jammu province almost three districts fall on the right bank of Chenab river having close contiguity with Kashmir province. Only three districts with majority Hindu population fall on the left bank of the river. According to Chenab Line formula of division of Jammu and Kashmir (if agreed to) eighty- percent territory of the state (including Azad Kashmir and Northern areas) becomes part of Pakistan only twenty percent being left with India. This kind of solution of Jammu and Kashmir could be a windfall for Pakistan and the Kashmiris.
But India can never be ready to accept this formula to settle this long standind issue.

General Musharraf’s four point formula:
General Musharraf’s four point formula can provide an effective roadmap in Kashmir:
1) self governance
2) demilitarization-
3) soft borders, free movement within whole state
4) Joint management of Kashmir, Joint management will mean that India, Pakistan, and the two Kashmirs will comprise a group. A group to manage common interests and common issues like trade, tourism, and river waters etc. These four points would enable the two countries to build trust amongst each other by increasing understanding, communication and mutual good will.

Therefore, Musharraf’s four point formula through joint management and self governance, demilitarization and irrelevant borders and free trade will provide a case worthy of pursuit. Musharraf’s four-point formula on Kashmir was not a sell-out. It entails the initiation of an evolutionary process which would have negotiated itself through to the doable which would be sustaining and stabilising.

What is the realistic solution of Kashmir issue? Discuss on the basis of different formulas presented time by time to resolve this issue.

Practically speaking, it is a dead issue. We had bargained this with India through Shimla Agreement , 1972......in exchange for 90,000 army men.

Kashmir: Missed opportunities for its solution...
The Kashmir issue has been remained confrontational and bedeviled issue between Pakistan and India since preamble of independence .all this happened because of betrayed of Kashmir maharajah Hari Sing who had decided to join India without consensus of Kashmiri people.According to declared principle what the majority of people would decide to join either domination , they would be demarcated to that domination. but it did not happen so , because of bamboozling of Hari Singh. two-third segment ,came under Indian administered territory and one-third under Pakistan administration.
Three times India deemed weak since conceiving of Kashmir issue .These were the scenarios when Pakistan could avail it but this could not occur. at the initial duration of issue, freedom fighter of Kashmir was zealous and strong to get freedom and India became ready to endorse UN solution. second, when war between india and china triggered in 1962. Indian military and politic were engaged in the war. coincidently, freedom fighters of Kashmir sloganed for freedom .India seemed weak in this scene to tackle the kashmir issue and he motivated for solution. India promised kashmiri people and Pakistan that after abolition of china-India strains India would come on consensus about kashmir issue with pakistan and Kashmir leaders. but after sino-india reconciliatory situation , india demised its promice and refused to agree on consensus about Kashmir issue. Third, it was very great opportunity for pakistan when Pakistan Army ,under former General Pervez Musharaf , took over the karigil peak 1999 ... the location of Kargil peak is very strategical important that it is near line control . Through kargil peak it could be overlooked the highways in indian held kashmir , connecting Srinagar and Leh. by blocking this link , it could be disconnected between Kashmir Valley and ladakh .if then government would not come under pressure of USA, president Bill Clinton , pak could held table talks with india and get fulfillment of its demand regarding kasmhir, as former General mushuraf had wished. the important to say that that time pakistan was a nuclear country it has strong defensive capability if war triggered between india and pakistan. then. UNO and rest world think seriously about the issue and accrue immediate solution of kashmir. keeping perview current global situation and global scenario, solution of kashmir can be acquired through diplomatic means. in modern and advance period confrontational solution cause huge devastation . now, former AJK prime minister and muslim conference president Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan urged india and pakistan to open line of control for trade. this step may conceive new strategy for the solution of Kashmir issue in future .

Sooner we admit LoC as International Border officially , better it will be. After 1972, issue of Kashmir is dead. We have again tried " aggression strategy " in 1989 and 1999 but failed. The chairmanship of Kashmir Committee is nothing but " siyasi rishwat " and shows our approach towards this issue.
