Reports say that as of Sunday, November 11, 2012, 18 states have petitioned the Obama administration for secession from the union to "create [their] own new government." The petitions come within days of the presidential election.

The first petition came from Louisiana. The Examiner reports that on November 7, "Michael E" from Slidell, Louisiana, filed the petition at the White House "We the People" site, requesting that Louisiana be allowed to secede.

According to Regina Conley, reporting for Red Alert Politics, more than 8,000 Louisiana residents have signed the online petition to the Obama administration to allow the state of Louisiana to "withdraw peacefully from the United States of America and create its own new government."

The petition, citing the Declaration of Independence, said it is the right of the people to form a new government when the one in power is not the "consent of the governed."

The petition reads:

"When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation."

According to Red Alert Politics, on Friday, Micah H. from Arlington, Texas, followed Louisiana with a petition that now has over 5,000 signatures.

The Texas petition reads:

"The US continues to suffer economic difficulties stemming from the federal government’s neglect to reform domestic and foreign spending. The citizens of the US suffer from blatant abuses of their rights such as the NDAA, theTSA, etc. Given that the state of Texas maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world, it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union, and to do so would protect it’s citizens’ standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by the federal government."

It is reported that a petition from Oregon was started Saturday by "Kristopher W" of Tillamook. The petition states that Oregon would remain an ally of the United States and possibly vote to return to the Union as soon as "the citizens of Oregon felt the Federal Government was no longer imposing" tyrannical government "that cares nothing about the future of Oregon's children."
According to Red Alert Politics, other petitions were filed from 13 states.

Red Alert Politics says each petition on the White House site has 30 days to reach a threshold of 25,000 signatures in order for the Obama administration to consider the request.
According to Iroot.org, as of 6:39 pm, Sunday, petitions have been filed from 18 states.

The ability to create the petitions is something that the Obama administration promised and delivered on because:
"We want to hear from you. If a petition gets enough support, White House staff will review it, ensure it’s sent to the appropriate policy experts, and issue an official response."
Any petition requires 25,000 signatures for consideration. As you can see, in just a few days, Louisiana is halfway to the necessary total. In order to sign the petition, users simply need to create a whitehouse.gov account and click "sign the petition."
Before anyone begins to cry treason or some other fear tactic, this is nothing more than an activist tactic (albeit a very dramatic one) attempting to garner government attention for the state of the electorate and our nation.
As whitehouse.gov clearly reminds us:
"The right to petition your government is guaranteed by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution. We the People provides a new way to petition the Obama Administration to take action on a range of important issues facing our country."
No one is threatening to secede or to wage war against the United States of America. It is a petition, plain and simple. But as they say, desperate times call for desperate measures, and clearly some Americans are feeling the need to make a dramatic noise.

I have to admit that this move fascinates me, and leaves me wondering what may be next. there are more than 40 states in US.
Obama has won collectively so he can win elections in such chaotic situation.
But according to me the petition filed yet have only some thousand petitioners which is not a sizeable pool of any state.
second they are the shockwaves of nationalism appeared in arab, now in europe and us. in europe last news were europe at brink of nationalist collapse but in us yet nationalism has not gained enough momentum....

I Agree that there are more than 40 states in US(52 states) but everyone was not ready to select obama again.

The main issue is of economy and USA (still being the No.1 at economy in world) has started making efforts to get rid of the unemployment and economic gaps amongst various states. Another thing, the states which are leading in such petitions, I think, are those, where Obama did not get sucess :confused: Further, simultaneously there have been petitions that persons who are raising petitions for dismemberment /breakage of USA should be deported :blink
