Default Malala

Swat valley is known as the Asian Switzerland. It is surrounded by mountains from all the sides. Its beauty had attracted the British Queen too. She used to visit the Swat valley. After the independence of Pakistan and the merger of swat state into Pakistan, the tourism in Swat valley reached a peak. People from all around the world were coming to Swat during summer vacations. Swat was a peaceful land. But the U.S attack on Afghanistan and the Talibanisation of Afghanistan influenced the Asian Switzerland and its peaceful nature started gradually eroding. It was around 2007 that extremist mindset influenced the people and they challenged the writ of the state.

Schools, hospitals, mosques and police stations were bombed. Female were barred from going to schools. But there was a girl named MALALA - living in the valley who believed in education. She was reading in a local private school run by his father. At the age of 14-15, she knew the importance of education and she started challenging the extremist mindset. She stressed on the female education and tried to convince people to educate their daughters and sisters.

She became on the hit list of the extremists and were shot in the neck when she was on her way back to home from school. She was immediately dispatched to CMH (Central Military Hospital). After initial treatment there, she was sent to U.K for treatment and there she recovered from her injuries and again started the mission to educate females. She was awarded a Nobel Peace prize.

Recently she was appointed as the messenger of peace by the UN security council. In the UN security council, she stood on the stage and represented her country and religion. She is the first ever Pakistani who is appointed as the messenger of peace in the UN security council. Being an ordinary Pakistani, when I heard the words “my country Pakistan is a peaceful country” from her at the international fora – I got emotional.
One might agree or disagree with her, but at least she is the positive image of the country. She is representing our country in the world. There is not a single person in our country who can propel the postitive image of our country but except her.
