Mohammedmian to take oath tomorrow
 

[FONT=Arial]ISLAMABAD: President Pervez Musharraf decided Thursday to appoint senate chairman Mohammedmian Soomro as caretaker prime minister to oversee general elections, a presidential aide was quoted as saying.

"Mohammedmian Soomro will take the oath as caretaker prime minister tomorrow," a senior presidential aide said. "He is the most suitable candidate and has vast experience."

The caretaker premier and his cabinet will be sworn in tomorrow (Friday) at 1030am.

According to sources, the cabinet is expected to comprise ten to 15 members. The same sources told that Justice (rtd) Ijaz Nisar is being made the interim chief minister of Punjab.

The 57-year-old former banker is a member of Musharraf's ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Q party.

The former banker was appointed governor of Sindh province in May 2000 and elected as a senator in February 2003, becoming senate chairman the following month, according to his biography on the Pakistan senate's website.

He is head of the Soomro tribe of southern Sindh province and comes from a family with decades of political experience, it said.

"He is known for his strong interpersonal and leadership skills," the biography says. "He is well acquainted with national and socio-political issues and has vast exposure in political life since his college days."[/FONT]
