Introduction

DAWN EDUCATION EXPO 2008 is a unique higher education platform, specially conceived to facilitate the enrolment of Pakistani students in universities and institutes of higher learning.

DAWN EDUCATION EXPO 2008 is organised by DAWN, Pakistan’s leading ¬English language newspaper, read by the country’s most influential consumer segments. DAWN is also recommended reading in the finest schools and colleges throughout Pakistan, and it is from this select body of schools that the DAWN EDUCATION EXPO draws its maximum student participation, thereby ensuring exceptional quality.

DAWN EDUCATION EXPO 2008 is organised with the specific objective of helping institutes of higher learning reach a national cross section of Pakistani students who have the qualifications and the means to contemplate further education in Pakistan or abroad.

DAWN EDUCATION EXPO 2008 is held at a critical juncture (late February) – when students have received their final results and are making their final choices regarding the institute they will choose for their higher studies.

DAWN EDUCATION EXPO 2008 has a proven track record of success. In 2007, DAWN EDUCATION EXPO was held in Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore. It attracted an audience of over 75,000 top achieving students. With over 135 universities and higher education institutes participating from Pakistan, Australia, Canada, France, Hong Kong, Ireland, Malaysia, Poland, South Korea, the UAE, the UK and the USA, the 2007 event was a resounding success.

DAWN EDUCATION EXPO 2008 offers institutes of higher learning unique networking opportunities designed to facilitate student-to-university as well as university-to-university interface.

Why Participate?
• In Pakistan, quality education is strongly associated with a foreign degree. A degree from a foreign institute of higher learning opens the doors to a career path in a prestigious national or multinational company.
• The young constitute 45% of Pakistan’s total population and are entering the job market at a staggering rate, thus further enhancing the competition for jobs. In an environment where companies give preference to foreign graduates, the best way forward for young people to gain an edge is to obtain foreign academic qualifications. English being Pakistan’s business and second language, Pakistani students do not encounter any language barriers when applying to study in English speaking countries.
• Now, due to a rapidly growing economy, Pakistan’s job market is expanding exponentially and the number of students seeking enrollment in foreign universities is increasing dramatically.
• In 2006, approximately 18,000 Pakistani students opted for higher education abroad. This number is expected to rise to 25,000 in 2008.
• In 2007, the British High Commission in Pakistan is expecting between 12,000 and 15,000 students as compared to 11,469 in 2006.
• In 2007, the Australian High Commission in Pakistan anticipates welcoming at least 2,500 Pakistani students as compared to 1,968 students in 2006 and 1,626
in 2005.
• Thousands of Pakistani students are hoping to enroll in Middle Eastern and East Asian universities, particularly those located in countries like Indonesia, Malaysia and the UAE.
