THE office of the chairman, Federal Public Service Commission, has been lying vacant for the last six months.
The FPSC is a strategic institution responsible for recruitment of critical positions amongst the ranks of bureaucracy.

This institution has maintained public confidence by ensuring transparency in its operations, especially in the recruitment process.

However, the inordinate delay in the appointment of its chairman has instigated rumours and suspicions, especially amongst CSS aspirants.

It is being said that the government intends to get desired results and the presence of the chairman may prevent them from doing so.

Whatever the motives of the government are, there is no apparent reason for such an undue delay.

Where the standard of civil services is already deteriorating, this uncertainty would further aggravate the situation by raising unrest amongst future bureaucrats.

It is the responsibility of the government to appoint some well-reputed person without any further delay.

It was also reported in the national press that the government had offered this post to Justice Rana Bhagwandas but the latter has refused to accept it.

If this is true, I would like to request the Justice Rana Bhagwandas to accept this position as his leadership would add to the integrity of the FPSC.
