Regional-Denmark, Religion, 5/11/2006 The second international seminar on the personality of the Prophet Mohammad, titled "Who the Prophet Mohammad is", will be held at the Danish National Museum in Copenhagen on Thursday, hosted jointly here by the Imam Ali Center and the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The one-day seminar will focus on the prophet's life and his message. Panel-discussions include topics like "Mohammad and freedom of speech", "Prophet Mohammad as an example for Christians", "Prophet Mohammad and other religions", "The thoughts of Prophet Mohammad", "Centrality of Mohammad in Islamic theology" and "Mohammad as depicted in the Danish Orientalist tradition". Renowned Islam experts from Iran, Britain and Denmark will address the seminar which will also dwell on ways to bridge the gap between cultures in the society. The first seminar on the thoughts of the Prophet Mohammad took place in mid-April in Copenhagen Prophet Mohammad role model for Christians: British scholar Regional-Denmark, Religion, 5/12/2006 Prophet Mohammad is also a role model for Christians said yesterday a British religious scholar in Copenhagen in his speech at a one-day international seminar on the personality of Prophet Mohammad, hosted jointly by the Copenhagen-based Imam Ali Islamic Center and the Iranian Embassy. "Many aspects of Mohammad's life can be example to others, especially Christians," said Chris Hewer of St. Ethelburga's Center for Reconciliation and Peace which is headquartered in the United Kingdom. Hewer pointed to the Prophet's characteristics like "kindness, generosity, simplicity and mercy" as reasons to use the prophet as an personal example. The former Advisor on Inter-Faith Relations to the Bishop of Birmingham hailed Prophet Mohammad as "a statesman and political leader who always consulted people, especially women and elderly." The British religious expert reiterated that the "great contribution of the Prophet was his emphasis on the importance of family." Ayatollah Mahdi Hadavi Tehrani of Qom's Islamic University warned at the seminar of "evil" attempts to discredit the dialogue of religion movement, adding "efforts underway to seek clashes among religions." "Evil forces don't want us to do this (dialogue among religions) but we will," added Hadavi Tehrani who is a founding member of the New York-based World Council of Religions which has been promoting religious dialogue since 2002. The Iranian religious figure stressed that the religious dialogue had been "very fruitful so far." "I hope we can reach common points among other religions," said Hadavi Tehrani who described himself as an "activist of religious dialogue." "The religious feelings of people have to be respected," said Iran's Ambassador to Denmark Ahmad Daniali during his opening address. "Regrettably we are faced with actions and statements by certain people who have insulted the religious feelings of Muslims. These kind of acts pave the way for turning historic misunderstandings into confrontations," the Iranian envoy warned. Daniali highlighted the need "to respect religions" while calling also for concentrated efforts to promote "dialogue among religions." "More than ever before in history, the world needs to have values and respect for human mankind," he added. source= http://www.arabicnews.com |
