Qadir Baloch advocates Balochistan cause

ISLAMABAD: MNA Lt General (R) Abdul Qadir Baloch who had once defied General Musharraf by resigning from the post of Governorship, pleasantly emerged on Saturday as a bold new voice from Balochistan. The impressive speech he made instantly reminded all the top Pakhtun and Baloch leaders like Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Sanaullah Baloch of their past fairy speeches in the NA. His speech was an admirable attempt to fill the gap created by the absence of these top leaders from this parliament.
The journalists who were missing the fiery speeches of stalwarts like Mahmood Achakzai, Sanaullah Baloch, Rauf Mengal and other nationalist leaders from Balochistan, were pleasantly surprised to hear the telling speech of Qadir Baloch, who did not mince words in telling his colleagues that they were wasting their time in arguing over petty things while Balochistn was slipping from their hands.
“Pakistan would not be a beautiful country without Balochistan,” warned Qadir Baloch. He wanted to drive home this vital point to the fellow parliamentarians, most of whom seemed unconcerned about the gravity of the situation and whiled away their time in chatting.
Qadir Baloch was visibly disturbed to observe that no one in the house of 342 was worried by the carnage that took place a day before in Quetta in which more than 70 people were killed first by bomb attacks and then by indiscriminate firing by unknown assailants. One could feel genuine pain in the voice of Qadir Baloch when he thundered that he had a “breaking news” to share with all of them. He repeated the words of “breaking news” obviously to gain the attention of MNAs and media alike. Then in a voice choked with emotions he disclosed that death toll in Quetta had risen to 70. He regretted the apathy of the house that included the prime minister, the leader of the opposition, and other legislators. He ruefully said that in four hours of the session no one even came out with the suggestion of offering fateha for the souls of the innocent people massacred in Quetta. He was sorry that no one in the lower house had an iota of sympathy with those who were butchered in Quetta.
The way Qadir Baloch pleaded his case as how people of Balochistan were made to suffer in the devastating floods to save lands of a few PPP ministers, moved at least everyone in the press gallery, if not members sitting in the NA. His words reminded everyone of respected Achakzai and Sanaullah Baloch who used to deliver similar kind of hard hitting and convincing speeches for the rights of their people.
The bigwigs like Sanaullah Baloch, Rauf Mengal had resigned from the parliament protesting against military operation in Balochistan. Islamabad based media was used to hear Sanaullah Baloch and Mahmood Khan Achakzai in pin drop silence. Both had played a major role in producing massive awareness among Islamabad based journalists about miseries of the people of Balochistan as well as their rights. The media persons in Islamabad miss their awesome speeches while Balochistan cause has suffered massively in their absence. This should go to the credit of Qadir Baloch that despite being new to politics he has effectively advocated the case of his people which impressed all, if not his own party MNAs.
Mehar Bux Maher too agitated with full voice like Qadir Baloch. But, it seemed that the desperate cries of Qadir Baloch from Balochistan and Maher Ghous from Sindh, both from provinces hard hit by floods, had fell on deaf ears in the parliament house——as everyone remained indifferent to their hue and cry for any help for the people ravaged by floods.
