Lightweight Metals Automotive Research Part of New CSIRO
Program

With lightweight metals research for the automotive industry underway at USCAR in the
United States and the recently announced Ford-Volvo partnership in Sweden, it would
make sense that the Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research
Organization would soon start a program on similar veins of study.
While their mid-August announcement to develop titanium automotive applications falls
inline with this current industry trend, their focus seems to more on titanium and
magnesium than aluminum and magnesium, due to the wealth of titanium deposits in the
country.
