Default CCPO:Smashed /\/ Mashed (peKhavar Bomb Blast)

Pakistan bombing kills 14 people

It is not yet clear who was the intended target of the blast
A bomb blast in Pakistan's north-west city of Peshawar has killed at least 14 people - mostly policemen including two senior officers - officials say.
At least 30 others were injured by the explosion just as a Shia religious procession was about to start.

Initial indications point to a suicide bombing, officials say.

This is the second deadly blast in Pakistan in two days. On Friday, a suicide bomber blew himself up at an Islamabad hotel, also killing a guard.

Peshawar chief of police Malik Saab and the city's deputy superintendent were among the dead.

I was shocked by a big explosion. I thought my eardrums had burst.

Security forces have been on high alert ahead of the annual Shia festival of Ashoura, commemorating the 7th Century martyrdom of the Prophet Muhammad's grandson.

In recent years Sunni extremists have targeted Shias during this period, says the BBC's Barbara Plett in Islamabad.

There have also been threats of retaliation following government strikes against militants in the nearby tribal areas.

'In a bad way'

Most of the victims were police and municipal officials clearing the route for a Shia procession, officer Aziz Khan - who was on duty nearby - told AP news agency.

"I was shocked by a big explosion. I thought my eardrums had burst. Then there were flames and the people were in panic.

"I remembered that there was a police contingent, so I went to see what had happened to my colleagues. Many were wounded in a bad way," he said.

Blood and flesh were splattered over the narrow lane where the blast took place, and there was broken glass from shop fronts underfoot as police scoured the site, Reuters news agency said.

It is not clear whether the attack was aimed at the worshippers or the police.

Power was cut in the city centre shortly after the blast, complicating rescue efforts.

Hundreds of people rushed to hospitals, hoping for news of their loved ones.

President Pervez Musharraf strongly condemned the attack and expressed condolences to the victims' families.

It is very sadenning. In fact, it is an insult of Muslims. They are fighting against each other to give airs to sectarian violence. Hope we would be peace loving. Islam resists violence and killings strictly.

Killing the innocennt ones is not allowed in Islam. Don't know why the suicide bombers tihnk that they will direcly get the entry ticket of Heaven if they will kill the innocents by suicide bombing attacks. It is very shameful.

Regards,

AoA

Alas,

may ALLAH keep the departed souls in eternal peace....

its indeed worst but foreign hand in these bombings cannot be ruled out and as far as my thinking goes, it is foreing involvement... however, the outer enemies are lucky enough to get the support of inner tender/weak nerved persons, who can be easily ignited....

may ALLAH help Pakistanis out to curb this menace

Wsalam,

Many people are of the opine that taliban are involved behind the issue because they are taking the revenge by augmenting sectarian voilence among Pakistanis.

But i think it is up to us that how we are interacting with the outsiders. Taliban are the outsiders, they have got the sancturies in Pakistan because Pakistanis provided them space to live in. One needs to be loyal to his country and countrymen as well for the sake of posperity and peaceful environs.

Regards,

@ IMPOSSIBLE
I dont think that Taliban are behind the attack. The responsibility of
Every attack is thrust upon Taliban. We must look for other options too. Our boundary has become so insecure.Indians are very active on the other side of the border.
They may be behind it.
or the local people may be behind whose men have benn killed by Govt. recently

Dear nobody else than Muslims can go for suicide bombings. It is our Ulemma who have made the concept for talibans that they can go directly to jannat after conduting a suicide attacks. No other religion is involved in suicide bombing attacks.

So, may be India or any other enemy is using them but it is our Pakistani community who is providing them space to live in Pakistan. Like Waziristan and tribal area prople are providing space to taliban.

We should not help others to be successful in their cruel acts. Hope we Pakistanis would comprehend the deepness of the issue and need not to provide space to Pakistan enemies.

Regards,

Dear how canu say that Taliban are enemies of pakistan???

This is a misperception that they are behind such events. They had the better chances when they were ruling party in Afghanistan
Even then a large number of taliban was residing in pakistan
Why did not they commited suicidal attacks then????

This is only a propaganda
If we talk against suicidal attacks we have to consider the reasons behind.
Why does a man put himself to death when life is precious for everyone???
ulema are u said a reason.
They are saying people that they would go to heaven
what about the suicidal attacks in Chechneya, Palestine Fidayi attacks in Kashmir????
Why the teenagers who have an ambitious life before them go into this arena
This is due to that they dont harm anybody and dont want anybody interfere with them and when anone attacks their sovereignity they go aginst him

Do i need to elucidate the bad things they are doing in Pakistan so Musharraf has machinated proper functional plans to eradicate Talibans from Pakistan.

Islam does not allow us to kill the innocent ones. Suicidal attacks are targetting the innocent ones. That is true, Islam allows us to kill the enemies even if we have to sacrifice our own lives for that but Islam never allows us to kill the innocents.

Well who is bothering Talibans? Nobody is doing so, in fact they are bothering Pakistanis. That is an open truth.

well,i don,t think that Taliban militia is behind the gruesome suicide attack in Peshawar,as it is well known fact that Taliban are the brainchild of our agencies,so how can they turn against Pakistan.secondly, this attack is not from taliban but may be due to taliban,as Pakistan is experiencing an estranged relations with Afghanistan right now and it is being alleged of fuelling unrest in Afgahnistan.so there is a strong possibilty that Afghan Government, under the wings of Indians, had this attack carried out.
Another possibility is that the militants in tribal areas avenged the attack of pakistani forces in South Waziristan that was publicly avowed to be avenged by Baithullah Masud.
As far suicide attacks r concerned.these have become a greatest concern for governments and most potent weapons of terrorists.irrespective of whether Islam permits suicide attacks to be carried out at some situations, they r being carried out and yielding desired results.

Well police has got video tapes and others prooves from the suspected suicide bomb attackers from Dera Ismail Khan. Those tapes are a solid prrof and are displaying the recorded videos that how Talibans train the innocent and immature youngsters to fight against their own countrymen. This has been told in the news.

Other elites who were discussing the issue are also of the opine that Taliban are supporting the suicide bomb attack. DIK is already facing trouble due to Talibans for a couple of years but now the voilence has been incremented.
