Indeed it goes axiomatically without any shadow of doubt that the democracy imposed upon us, the trampled and marginalized people of the misgoverned state Pakistan, is no way in its essence as well as in the true context of the term, the one envisaged by the eminent political philosophers and the great statesmen from Plato to Jinnah.
Since the inception of Pakistan, the politics has been remained as what may be candidly deemed “ Quota” reserved merely for the big guns, ranging from illiterate wanton feudal lords to topmost fraudulent industrialists and from opportunistic political priests to political charlatans. Not to speak of being given a considerable share in the governance of the state, even contesting an election on the part of an enlightened well read middle-classed citizen in the face of a dynastically influential politician amounts to “ building castles in the air’, and all this culminates in the sheer exploitation of the society in the hands of a certain class of visionless, unskilled and inept persons, most of whom tend to be devoid of prerequisites and the decorum of politics.
Democracy in Pakistan has met debacle and derailment off and on preponderantly because it has never been let be put into the motion straightway in the true context, neither does there seem any prospect of its flourishing until and unless ordinary citizens capable and qualified be entitled to the right to partake fully in the political life by contesting elections and sitting in the assemblies in order to make the most of their skills and expertise for betterment of the state, otherwise democracy as professed today, resting on the custom of politics as the prerogative of those having resources, should not be tagged as democracy, rather it is oligarchy or something still worse.
