HEC Indigenous PhD Fellowship Program – Batch III 2015

The specific objective of the 5000 Indigenous Scholarship Scheme is to create a critical mass of highly qualified human resources in all fields of studies taught at the advanced level in local universities. These locally qualified academics and researchers will improve the R&D potential of public as well as private universities and it will also strengthen the local industrial sector.

With the launching of the scheme, research culture in public/private sector Universities has been developed in accordance with International norms/standards. This project is focused at diversified disciplines belonging to all fields of Science & Technology as well as Social Sciences, Humanities and Life Sciences. To enhance the research facilities in these fields the Higher Education Commission has funded many Departments/Universities to establish research labs. This has brought tremendous change in research culture of the Pakistani Universities.

HEC has kept great emphasis on indigenous scholarship schemes because locally trained researchers work on local problems of great national significance. Their research, therefore, is expected to have direct relevance to the growth and socio-economic development of Pakistan.

In addition, this scheme also provides funds to the Universities for upgrading their research facilities particularly small laboratory equipment, chemicals, IT equipment etc. which not only facilitates research of the HEC scholar but also serves as an asset for the department to establish up to date research laboratories.

Hi, To inform you all GAT General is not mandatory for this scholarship but instead of it a separate test will be conducted by HEC (May be through some testing service). Visit to FAQ section http://www.hec.gov.pk/INSIDEHEC/DIVISIONS/HRD/SCHOLARSHIPS/LOCALSCHOLARSHIPS/IPHDFP5000F/Pages/FAQs.aspx
For further info

It is also mentioned in the newspaper ad that a test will be conducted. So no need to worry about it. :pp

I have read the FAQ section on the website of HEC. There someone asked that I have passed GAT test can I apply for the scholarship in reply to which HEC said that no separate GAT test will be taken later on.
I am confused a bit. If they will take the test later then why have they written in the advertisement that applicants need to send GAT result along with application and the bank deposit slip?

If anyone especially those who have availed similar scholarship in the past can tell what is the time frame of the scholarships?
Will highly appreciate if someone will tell the step by step time frame.
Also when does HEC intends to finalize the scholarships for the students to start session?

Can anyone guide me how to check list of universities for which this scholarship is applicable???
As HEC is mentioned that this is only for selected universities

Brother I am pasting the Exact lines from FAQ section that will make it clear:

Q: - I have cleared GAT General Test from NTS , Can I avail this opportunity?

Ans:- NO, A separate scholarship test in the format of GAT General will be arranged by HEC for prospective eligible candidates.
Now it is clear that there is no need of GAT. HEC will conduct it later.

I have availed it in phase-II, announcement was made in July 2013 and results were announced in April 2014. We were asked to complete our documents and admissions before 31 September 2013 and finally funds were transferred to my university in Jun 2015.
You can find out our complete discussions on following thread:

It means they took 2 years to complete this whole process.
Couldn't they just just linger on any longer? say like one finally reaches grave.
I have not yet read all the pages and comments completely but just scanned them briefly and have got that impression that there are few students who got the scholarship, and those who did went through hell to get it and even after getting the scholarships they were ripped in form of taxes.
I am in doubts now if I should really pursue it or not? Is this worth the time and energy?
