That is not the case now. It used to be like this before 2004 when the service was known as Provincial Civil Service (PCS). It had two tiers namely PCS-Executive and PCS- Secretariat. Those who were in higher merit opted PCS-Executive (AC) and rest joined Secretariat Service (SO). In the year 2004, these two groups (PCS-Exe and PCS-Sect) were amalgamated under the banner of Provincial Management Service. Now, the government can either post you as Assistant Commissioner or Section Officer.

First of all thank you so much for your cooperation and valuable time.you have scored quite well in essay.would you like to share the specific strategy you adopted for the said paper.Did you consult any book in this regard for collecting material. As we are short of time so if you share a short term preparation plan for it that would be of great help.

For essay i would suggest the following guidelines

1) Be relevant. Don't digress from the topic.

2) Use simple vocabulary. Don't go for high frequency words.

3) Ensure correct use of grammar and spellings.

4) Introduction should complement the topic of essay.

5) Conclusion should include all aspects of the topic that you have outlined.

Since essay is a more structured form of paragraph writing, you have to learn how to develop a paragraph by addressing what to write and the logical sequence in the sentence.

NOW HOW TO WRITE A GOOD PARAGRAPH?

There are 4 techniques

1) Unity: Every paragraph has a central idea which should be expressed in the first sentence. A paragraph is unified around this central idea, which should be complemented well by supporting sentences.

2) Order: It is how you organize your supporting sentences.

3) Coherence : Sentences in a paragraph need to connect to each other and work together as a whole.

4) Completeness: a well developed paragraph is a complete paragraph i.e If all sentences clearly supports the main idea of the paragraph.

TIP: The last sentence in a paragraph should summarize the main idea of the the said paragraph.

Regarding strategy, i would advise you to devote atleast 4 hours (2 hours each) to essay and precise excercise. For essay..
go through past papers

Select a topic

Write an outline of your chosen topic

Then the introduction

And finally conclusion.

If it's possible, get it checked by an English teacher who can point out your mistakes.

My strategy for essay was the same i.e learn how to write and develop a paragraph.
