my preparation for competitive exams started during my graduation. I must admit that my qualification of MSc IR from Quaid e Azam University gave me an added advantage of preparation. I was also a qualifier of PMS 2013 attempt, but was not allocated, so ALHAMDULLILAH the Base was set.
Here are the recommendations of different subjects. English Precis and Composition = Wren & Martin or Exploring the world of English Pakistan Affairs = Trek to Pakistan and there is one book by I.H Qureshi (Univ of Sindh), sorry I forgot the name.. Current Affairs = Times Magazine, Diplomat, Economist and dDawn Newspaper Islamiyat = Islam it's meaning and message, and there is a book by 2014 topper. I would recommend it. For optionals Sociology = Virtual university notes, & Horton and Hunt Journalism = Abid Tehami & Understanding Journalism by Lynette Sheridan Burns Philosophy 1 = Irving Copi Or Patrick Hurley Philosophy 2 = Internet sources US history = NOA academy notes + Internet International Law = S.K Kapoor. |

I have a couple of questions if you wouldn't mind answering. 1. For philosophy 1 specifically symbolic logic I read Copi's book because it treats symbolic logic and classical logic separately unlike Hurley. Is the chapter named "Symbolic Logic" in the Copi book enough to cover the symbolic logic portion of the syllabus? 2. Did you skip any chapters from Horton and Hunt while studying Sociology? 3. Did you find NOA notes sufficient for US history or should a book be followed along with it? 4. If you remember the name of the Islamiat book by the topper please share. Thanks for reading. |

Waalikum Salam. No I don't mind them answering I also consulted COPI for philosophy part 1. Due to shortage of time, I used to refer to Patrick Hurley in case of any confusion, especially for the topic "CATEGORICAL SYLLOGISM". I think symbolic logic in COPI's book will suffice. There is a website on philosophy, which is very helpful and I often used to consult it. I will find it for you and paste it here.. Yes. I strictly restricted myself to the requirements of syllabus. I would advise you all, to go about your preparation in the same manner. I did read Majumdaar books. There is a book by emporium publishers of 50 solved questions, you may like to consult it.. Along with the Internet. The name of the book is Islamic Studies by Hafiz Karim Chughtai. The name of Pakistan Affairs book is Struggle for Pakistan. I hope all your queries have been answered. |

Yes. There are issues in Majumdaar's book. It's an old book, and have been consulted by many senior csps.. so it's better to go for an updated preparation. Exactly. That's the one (website) I was talking about. You are good to go. Happy studying and good luck for exams. |

Revision is one of the most essential component of your preparation. Be sure that you give it an ample time. Since exam is just a month away, i would recommend you all to atleast give TWO WEEKS for revision.
Coming to Sociology.. there are two styles of paper that you will often see for sociology. One is a bookish type of exam, where you write all the stuff that you have studied. Another type is applied sociology paper (as was in our attempt). While attempting this kind of paper, be sure that you support your answer with the relevant sociological theory. For example if the question is on Social conflict then do mention Karl Marx philosophy. In this way you substantiate your answer by giving it a theoretical support. In addition to this, let me admit that headings have always helped me get good marks. Secondly, if the question is such that tests interrelated topics, do brainstorm the requirements of the question, before you attempt it. In my opinion this methods fetch you more marks. I hope your query is answered. |
