KHYBER PUKHTOON KHWA PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION,PESHAWAR
SUBJECT:- COMPETITIVE EXAMINATION FOR THE POST OF PROVINCIAL MANAGEMENT SERVICE (BPS-17)-2008

Forestry

Time allowed: 3 hours
Max marks:100

Note : Attempt Five question in all.All questions carry equal marks.

Question 1. A). Define Forest Ecology . Discuss its unique aspects and explain the scope of Forest Ecology.
B). What is an Even-aged and Un-even aged forest. Explain its advantages and disadvantages.

Question 2. A).Explain completely Random Design .How it differ from Randomized Block Design
B). Differentiate the followings:
i) Qualitative and Quantitative Data
ii) Descriptive statistics and inferential statistics
iii) Precision and Accuracy
iv) Pie Diagram and pictogram

Question 3.A).How we can maximize the social welfare of a society from Investment in forestry Sector.
B). Define forestry . Discuss its linkage with other sectors of economy .

Question 4. Define Range Improvement . What techniques you will suggest to improve the Range land in Pakistan.

Question 5. Explain the sedimentation process. How watershed Management practices may help to resolve the current energy crisis.

Question 6..A) Describe the indirect benefits of forest to the food security.
B). What is an food chain . Describe in detail the various components of food chain.

Question 7.A). What role a forest policy plays in the development of forestry sector .Suggest some policy issue you would like to incorporate in the next forestry policy to improve the forestry sector in Pakistan.
B). Define sustainable forest Management (SFM) paradigm. Suggest some criteria and used in Pakistan for assessing the implementation level on SFM.
