Can anyone please elaborate what is shorthand typing?

Shorthand is any system of rapid handwriting which can be used to transcribe the spoken word. Shorthand systems use a variety of techniques including simplifying existing letters or characters and using special symbols to represent phonemes, words and phrases

join any academy for it. jitna ziada practice eis pe uta jaldi gus jata he mind me .its just like maths.strokes he sarey.anyway good luck. my teacher told me about pitman he was imprisoned in a jail and us ka koi awer kaam nai ta walls pe likta rehta ta like insane person and hence he discovered shorthand .

Shorthand typing is by sounds (think syllables) and is the typing you see in court cases on TV. As Michael indicated below these typists are called stenographers and use the same phonetics (sounds) that children with reading difficulties (e.g. strong dyslexia) are thought how to speak with when they cant learn to pronounce words by natural implicit learning (listening to others and then vocalizing what they hear) or by reading and then vocalizing the sounds the letters should make

This is a much faster way of typing than Normal Typing Speed which measures typing speed of typing subsequent individual letters to type a word due to the fact that there is more than one letter in a syllable so in essence you are typing multiple letters at the same time.

The top speed for expert typists mentioned in answers below are fairly accurate

Shorthand Typing Speed - 300 WPM

Normal Typing Speed - 100 WPM
