First of all perform these following simple solutions:

First: right click on the file you have recently saved, click on open with and select the MS word application and before opening it, check the 'always open box' then click OK.

Second: Open MS office, click on Menu, then click on 'Save as' and manually click on save the file in MS word 2003 (if you are using MS word 2007)..before saving it make sure you are saving it in desired format.

These both are simple processes, if problem still persists, please let us know.

dear, i think you don,t have ms word installed on your pc.therefore your word files are not opened properly.

Open msword, drag the file and drop it into word. If you cant find msword you might not have msoffice installed :)

Goto control panel-> folder options, there should be a tab called file types, click on it and you will find a long list of file types and their applications, try to find .doc and .rtf and change their default application to msword
