wkumsalam:
As far as my experience is consernd i wud say tht yes ofcourse books vill help a lot but they r very time cosuming on the otherhand nowadays we have got the facility of internet and its quite esay to get the knowledge about whatever, we want so you too take its benefit and secondly i wud suggest you to make your notes by ur own b/c teachers while cheking get tired of the same material in answer copies and when somebody comes with some different ideas than tht really inspires them and compels them to give attractive marks so summation i wud simply say that for being a successfull literary student u need to be very creative because literature is not science which is based on particular facts rather its all what you think every individual can evalute any literary work differently..

workhard love your subject tht will take u to the top

ALL the best!

dear, don't worry...Masters in English is not a herculean task...with hard work and right approach you can pass the exam in first div.
of course, you can use books, notes, internet and your own ideas to excel but your ideas have to be relevant..don't expect first div by writing irrelevant material...you should have strong arguments to support your stance...if you can do this,no one's gonna fail you.

you are doing masters from PU..it's great.
you know in NUML they want just to the point answer..no preamble or such sort of things...but in PU if you give background of things(not very lengthy)they really appreciate it...

tips to attempt paper:

read the question twice and then see what they demand..is it general or specific?
attempt the question keeping in view the themes of the particular work and style of the writer.
do insert sufficient quotations from the text to support your argument(don't overdo them).
if a question is particularly about the style or characteristic of any writer, poet etc...then do mention 1 or 2 critics' opinions in it..(you will find them in guide books and internet).
don't worry it's looking difficult but when you will start studying..it will become easy.
also consult some good guide books as well to get an idea...
ALL THE BEST.

Dear Memuna Ist division is nearly impossible in annual system specifically If you do private masterz from PU.I never heard anyone taking 1st div in annual system.
You must have complete knowledge of text books then you will be in position to answer critical questions.Read available material, make points and then elaborate them in your own words.

ma english

ist div from pu looks like unachievable dream.so be realist, and do it in a better 2nd div.first of all get a book of literary terms and grasp them by heart.then next u shd go for history of english literature.do focus on the age of the writer of any genre,it will really help u to understand the literature
BEST OF LUCK

well i agree with farah zafar... that its amost impossible to get first div. in annual system especially from p. u..... b realist and try ur level best.... well first of all i would suggest u 2 be clear in ur mind ... dont worry about trivial matters... make things simple 4 u......u should have at least 2, 3 kinds of notes ... read them carefully and then try to make ur own notes ......thats ittttttt. last but not least be critical in ur approach while answering a question.....oxford advaced learners and dictionary of literary terms are essential for havig m. a english wish u bst of luck:vic
