TIPS FOR ESSAY: Writing an Essay isn't just about usage of sublime vocabulary. You have to have more than that. You must have APPROPRIATE vocabulary, clear ideas, sufficient knowledge about topic supported with facts and figures (you may actually draw graphs and tables). Writing an Essay is like constructing a building, (or watching the steps of how a building is constructed if you are not in Civil Engineering ) . You would require a blueprint for the building. You cannot build the 2nd floor first and ground floor later. Like construction of a building, Essay has to be interconnected, floor to floor following a sane pattern. One thing, in Essay, leads to another. E.g. Causes lead to effects, that leads to possible remedies. Starting to work on essay requires an important aspect of writing: SUBJECT-VERB AGREEMENT. In our case, as my learned teacher Col (R) Muzzafar used to say, its more like SUBJECT-VERB DISAGREEMENT. Just to make you start on your own, I am writing down thirty (30) sentences with options (fill in the blanks). Let's see how well you do. Consider it a test Subject - Verb Agreement 1. The teacher, as well as her students, ___________ entertained. (was, were) 2. The house, including its contents, ___________ insured. (is, are) 3. Many members, as well as the leader of opposition, ___________ against the bill. (was, were) 4. Fire and water ___________ not agree. (do, does) 5. At school, he and I ___________ chums. (is, are) 6. Rice and curree ___________ his favourite dish. (is, are) 7. The horse and carriage ___________ at the door. (is, are) 8. There ___________ much laughter and singing at the party. (was, were) 9. Honour and glory ___________ is his regard. (is, are) 10. He ___________ my brother and friend. (is, are) 11. Every right thinking man and woman ___________ against corruption. (is, are) 12. Neither the father nor his sons ___________ to construct a new house. (want, wants) 13. Either they or I ___________ in the wrong. (are, am) 14. Neither you nor your friend ___________ irresponsible. (is, are) 15. The police ___________ many responsibilities. (has, have) 16. The Police ___________ still searching for the murderer. (are, is) 17. The jury ___________ divided in their opinions. ( was, were) 18. The family ___________ sitting around the table. (is, are) 19. Politics ___________ a dirty game. (is, are) 20. Mathematics ___________ a difficult subject. (is, are) 21. No news ___________ good news. (is, are) 22. Hundred metres ___________ his best distance. (is, are) 23. I have a ten ___________ note in my pocket. (Rupee, Rupees) 24. One minus one ___________ a zero. (become, becomes) 25. His means ___________ sufficient to keep him alive. (are, is) 26. He takes ___________ in his work. (pain, pains) 27. He is the only one of our students who ___________ won the medal. (has, have) 28. He is one of those students who ___________ won the medal. (has, have) 29. Everybody is expected to do ___________ work. (his, their) 30. Each of the girls ___________ (was, were) ordered to bring ___________ (her, their) paraphernalia. Try to solve it. Regards

A good effort I must say. But I would like to add something here.
Causes: I agree that unemployment, illiteracy, rapid increase in population etc are the causes for beggary but the most important and biggest reason of beggary is neither of these. And ironically you have written it in effects. Its the Delibrate Compromise on one's self-esteem. A poor person, an illiterate, an unemployed will never beg until he has his self-respect intact. I have seen, and I am sure you as well, a number of disable people who do manual labour to earn a life and people who are much better in shape begging. (This is by the way analysis of my teacher and is true). In Introduction, you should not be discussing about Beggary in third world countries rather you can discuss its effects on these countries under effects. Similarly, greatness of manual labour is a possible remedy and should be under remedies. You can elaborate the effectiveness of manual labour there. Rest needs not my analysis, I am not even near to analyse someone's essay but just wanted to add up a bit. Try to expand this outline as an essay (in your register ). Regards

1. Yes, I agree with you that lack of self- respect or a compromise on it is one of the major causes of beggary. 2. Kindly write down a list of essays dictated by the teachers in NUML for personal practice for the Essay paper. 3. Please provide me the previous papers also of the regular students for Essay paper. Thanks for help. Best of Luck for CSS 2011 Result )

It will be really obliging me from your side , to spend your precious time to find out old papers. May you get excellent news regarding your competitive exam ! !
