There are two series. First series goes like, 1,2,3 then 4 . The next series goes like 3, then 9 (3*3) then 18 (9*3).
3 is being multiplied by 3, the resultant is further multipled by 3. So by multiplying 18 with 3 comes 54.
I might be wrong but this is how I tried to solve that.
