For taking GRE exam:
1. Get your passport made, they ask for your passport as document of identity, CNIC is not acceptable 2. If you have a credit card, good enough, otherwise find some one with a credit card, the payment is done online, there is no discount and finding some one with credit card is easier than going through the pay order procedure (you have to send the payorder to singapore/malaysia) 3. Buy the Barron's key for GRE and start off. If you want to get into a good unviersity in US, they ask for around 600/800 in verbal and 600/800 in quantative. Hence1200 plus score is considered good in GRE. If you are aiming for Ivy School League, a score around 1300-1400 is required. 4. The english/verbal part is not easy, you will have to do a lot of cramming, the wordlists will drive you crazy, you will come across words you never heard of in your life and never will use them again, but thats what GRE is about 5. If you have graduated with maths subjects, then the math/quantitative part will be manageable for you, otherwise get coaching for mathematics 6. Apart from barron's key they are also a couple of other books for GRE with latest "GRE test papers". Practise 7. GRE is a full fledge job, dont attempt with at least 3 months preparation, if you are aiming for a good score Good Luck! |

For depositing the fees and booking yourself for GRE exam on date, time and place of your convenience you need to visit the website mentioned above. It will guide you through all the required steps.
For GRE preparation, buy the Barron's Key for GRE. This is the basic guide for GRE preparation, it has sample tests and all the word lists. Basically there are 3 parts of a GRE exam: 1. Verbal (800 points) 2. Quantitative (800 points) 3. Analytical: You are suppose to write an essay on one of the 3 topics given, the maximum marks are 7 and you get its score with the written result after 2 weeks. Barron's key will be really helpful in guiding you through all the fine points. Also check what percentiles in GRE exam are acceptable in the university department you plan to join. It will help in setting targets. P.S. I am a female. |

1050-1100 means that you should have 550 each out of 800 in verbal and quantitavtive. it also depends on your degree, if there isnt any mathematical element in it a higher score on verbal and lower on quantitative is fine and vice versa. but the total score should come to around 1100 approx.
For Scoring well you should have: 1. good mathematics skills 2. reliable memory people who score really high on GRE have excellent memories, they can cram and cram the word lists. In your case the score desired is not very high. So average mathematics and english skills should do. Still its a lot of sheer hard work. I havent actually taken the exam myself but a lot friends and family members have gone through the experience. Every one of them was cramming word lists like mad. They would memorize fresh ones and forget earlier ones, would be failing sample tests they attempted before the exam and amazingly each one of them had really good scores when they took the exam.... what tips can i offer? join the club! |

Ofcourse you have to give your address, NIC and other details. But at the end it will ask for your credit card details When you give the correct details an appointment confirmation is emailed to your email address You print out that email and take along on the test date. I've given all this detail above just to make sure you're following the correct procedure Barron's key is a full fledge book. I am amazed you havent got it yet? It will guide you more than anything else about what the exam actually is The cramming factor comes in for the Verbal exam. There are MCQ's as to meaning of words and a comprehnsion. The list of all these words are given in the Barrons key and memorizing them is a tough job. (the word lists are in alphabetical order and span over a hundred pages i guess) All the people i know who prepared for GRE used the barron's key. It is the standard book for GRE preparation. Good Luck! |
