Default Luck vs fate debate interpreting story
As far I can see, it is not just a matter of luck and fate. Dear what I have noticed, that life is the game of two days one in your favour and one against you (quoting Imam Ali Karam ullah wajhuu). I don’t know the person in focus, but I know one thing that there is a subtle difference between unaware and unknown. This person surely struggling for something else, I am sure about that, and got adjusted here. This is fate. But doesn’t mean that he achieved without any struggle. So we have to ponder on the real reasons because of which success meet him at his door steps.

WAO. So should we leave everything on fate? Because Hardworking candidates who deserve to be on these posts couldn't reach there and on the contrary, those who consider these worthy tests as a practical get through it. Is it all about fate? not hard working? not assiduity ? On an honest note, I do not comply with this very system of neglecting highly deserved candidates and look from evil eyes at kakistocracy of these types of tests

one of the name of Allah (swt) is "As-Samad", means "bey-niaz". Its up to His sole discretion to bless or deprive. Only almighty has a knowledge and understanding of it. you may call it luck.
