At a time when Bush's popularity is very low both within US and outside and his policies are being increasingly criticzed, Pakistan Textbook Board included a poem on him in secondary school English Textbook.

بی بی سی اردو ڈاٹ کام، اسلام آباد

نصابی کتاب میں جارج بش پر نظم

وفاقی وزارت تعلیم سے منظور شدہ گیارہویں جماعت کے لئے شائع کی گئی انگریزی کی نئی کتاب میں امریکی صدر کی شان میں ایک قصیدہ لکھا گیا ہے جس میں ان کو ایک سچا رہنما قرار دیا گیا ہے۔ گو اس نظم میں، جس کا عنوان ’دی لیڈر‘ ہے، صدر جارج بش کا نام نہیں دیا گیا مگر اس نظم کے تمام مصرعے انگریزی کے ان حروف سے شروع ہوتے ہیں جن کو اگر اوپر سے نیچے کی طرف پڑھا جائے تو وہ ’پریذیڈنٹ جارج ڈبلیو بش‘ بنتا ہے۔

وزارت تعلیم سے منظور شدہ اس کتاب کو نیشنل بک فاؤنڈیشن نے شائع کیا ہے۔ اس سال اکتوبر میں شائع ہونے والی یہ کتاب اب بازار میں دستیاب ہے اور کالجوں میں پڑھائی جا رہی ہے۔ واضح رہے کہ پاکستان کی وزارت تعلیم گزشتہ تین برسوں سے نصاب پر نظر ثانی کر رہی ہے اور صدر پرویز مشرف اور وزیراعظم شوکت عزیز نے کئی مواقع پر کہا ہے کہ نصاب کو جدید طرز پر استوار کیا جائے گا۔

’دی لیڈر‘ نامی یہ نظم اس کتاب کے صفحہ دو سو چھبیس پر شائع کی گئی ہے۔اس نظم کے تمام استعارے امریکی صدر کی شخصیت کی طرف اشارہ کرتے ہیں۔اس نظم میں کوئی ربط نہیں ہے۔ پہلی رباعی میں چار مصرعے ہیں، دوسری میں پانچ، تیسری میں پھر چار، چوتھی میں صرف دو، جبکہ پانچویں میں پانچ مصرعے ہیں۔

لگتا یوں ہی ہے کہ لکھنے والے نے صرف صدر بش کا نام پورا کرنے کے لئے اس نظم کی مختلف رباعیوں میں اپنی مرضی کا ردو بدل کیا ہے۔

نظم لکھنے والے کا نام گمنام لکھا گیا ہے مگر یہ معلوم نہیں ہو سکا کہ یہ ’گمنام‘ امریکی ہے یا کوئی پاکستانی ’اتحادی‘۔

نظم کا اردو ترجمہ کچھ یوں بنتا ہے:

صابر اور ثابت قدم رہتا ہے سب کچھ برداشت کر کے

تمام چیلنجوں کا مقابلہ کرنے کے لئے تیار ہے

طرز عمل میں نرم ہے مگر سٹیل کی طرح مضبوط بھی ہے

ایمان کا پکا ہے خوشگوار طور پر اصلی ہے

ڈرتا نہیں ہے تجویز کرنے میں جو جرات مندی کا تقاضہ ہے

عام سانچے میں ڈھلتا نہیں ہے

آنکھیں ایسی جو دور تلک دیکھ سکیں، جہاں تک عام نظر نہ پہنچ پائے

پیچھے نہیں ہٹتا جب وہ سچ کو دیکھ لیتا ہے

نہ صرف کہتا ہے سب سچ بلکہ اس کو پورا بھی کرتا ہے

آگے چلتا ہے سمجھ کر کہ وہ صحیح ہے

اس وقت بھی جب اس پر شبہہ ہو کہ وہ کیوں لڑنا چاہتا ہے

بار بار وہ اپنا کیس واضح کرنے کی کوشش کرتا ہے

ان لوگوں تک بھی پہنچتا ہے جو اس کو نہیں سنتے

مزید مضبوط ہو رہا ہے اور لڑکھڑائے گا نہیں

خود پر یقین ہے اور اپنے قول کا پکا ہے

دنیا سے چاہتا ہے کہ وہ اس کی ثابت قدمی کا ساتھ دے

جنگ کے لئے تیار ہے مگر امن کا دعا گو ہے

بدی کو مٹانے میں اپنی قوت لگا رہا ہے

لیڈر کی طرح اور اعتماد کے قابل

کھڑا ہے ایک شخص جو کرے گا وہ جو اسے کرنا چاہئے

اس نظم کے بارے میں وفاقی وزارت تعلیم کے ایک عہدیدار نے بی بی سی سے بات کرتے ہوئے تسلیم کیا ہے کہ اس بات میں کوئی شبہہ نہیں ہے کہ یہ نظم امریکی صدر جارج بش کے بارے میں ہی ہے۔ وفاقی وزیر تعلیم جنرل جاوید اشرف قاضی سے جب اس بارے میں رابطہ کرنے کی کوشش کی گئی تو بتایا گیا کہ وہ چین کے دورے پر ہیں اور جمعرات کی شب کسی وقت واپس آئیں گے۔

نیشنل بک فاؤنڈیشن کے سیکریٹری اسلم راؤ نے بی بی سی سے بات کرتے ہوئے کہا کہ یہ محض اتفاق ہے کہ اس نظم کے تمام مصرعوں کے پہلے حروف کو اگر ملا کر پڑھا جائے تو وہ امریکی صدر کا نام بن جاتا ہے۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ دانستہ طور پر ایسا نہیں کیا گیا ہے۔انہوں نے کہا کہ یہ نظم لیڈر کے بارے میں ہے اور اس کی خوبیوں کو بیان کرتی ہے۔

Some one need to tell the authorities that is just pathatic, I mean how can a killer be mentioned in our books as a leader.

Do we have no more leadres left to mention?
Does our kids knows about all the Muslim Leaders?

Qureshi said that this poem will be deleted next year. I honestly dont understand what motives them people have while doing some thing like this. That is utterly stupid and apalling.

I know I could have done something better, but then so could have our Education Ministry! And all you managed to get were 2 F-16s and a couple of Billion US$s!! You need to write tons of poems regarding all the republicans to beg for more F-16s, Chinook Helicopterz and aid for the earthquake victims! I really despise your actions!

THE LEADER

Patient and steady with all he must bear
