Lahore misses longest solar eclipse of recent times

LAHORE: A solar eclipse was also observed in Pakistan on Wednesday but was not visible due to cloud cover. The eclipse was the longest total eclipse during recent times and the next eclipse of the same kind will be witnessed in 2032, experts said. Astrologists, however, had their own myths associated with the day. Some called the eclipse a bad notion while others thought it was a ‘warning’ for people to mend their ways. Amil Baba Chishti, an astrologist, told Daily Times that the eclipse had a negative influence on the people. He said pregnant women needed to take special precautions and should stay indoors during the 24 hours of the eclipse to avoid exposure to it.

Saieen Qutub, another astrologist, said the eclipse was a warning for the people to mend their ways. He said Pakistan’s leaders needed to perform good deeds to nullify the bad warning. Benish Murtaza, a space science graduate, said no myths should be attached to the eclipse, as it was a scientific phenomenon. She said it happened after a certain time and could not be declared ill-omened. The maximum temperature on Wednesday was recorded at 35 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature dropped to 22 degrees. The humidity in the morning was 53 percent while it rose to 76 percent in the evening. staff report
