Interview Tips Interviewing for a job is the most important part of job searching and will be the basis for whether you get the job or not. Each interview will always consist of the common interview questions that you will need to have the answers to ahead of time if you want to look professional. So how do you come up with the best answer? The answer will vary per person, but by altering certain things, you can make them even better. Keep It Light While laughing hysterically will make you look nervous, laughing at a hard question can also show a more personal side when answering the question. You want to keep the conversation professional, but also light to help remove nervousness or tension. For example, the question “what your biggest weakness was at your previous job?” can be difficult. Coming up with an answer like “that’s simple, I never knew when to stop because I liked the job so much” is a great way to not only give a good answer, but also show that you acknowledge a weakness. Clarify The diversity of jobs and people can cause messages to be misunderstood and can cost you the interview. It is important to always clarify if they understand. After the question you can say “did that answer your question” or “does that make sense”. Obviously you do not want to ask after each question as you may make the interviewer feel as though you think they are incapable of understanding. Keep it to the questions that may be difficult to understand without a deep explanation. Body Language Your body language is a significant indicator they will look at when you answer your questions. You will want to keep a professional smile as much as possible, but not to the point that it looks painted on. Your face should change with the situation. The things you want to avoid are fidgeting, creasing the eyebrows at a tough question, rolling the eyes, etc. Use your body language to show professionalism and respect. Remember that the interview is important and should be taken seriously. Act professional but not uptight or nervous. You will need to find a balance that shows them that you are professional and competent at the job you want to do. |
