Farz Prayers are those prayers that have been made obligatory upon the Muslims. There are 17 rakats of obligatory prayers in a day.

As for the wisdom in legislating these sunna prayers, Imam al-Haskafi mentions in al-Durr al-Mukhtar,

“The sunna prayers after the obligatory prayers were legislated to make up for the deficiency in the obligatory prayer, and the sunna prayers before the obligatory prayers are to cut the Devil from his greed.”

Sunna Prayers make up for deficiencies within the obligatory prayers themselves, caused by missing some of the sunnas that make up the prayer, for example. This is aided by the rigorously authenticated hadith that ‘A prayer that is not complete is added to from the supererogatory prayer associated with it until it is complete’. As for how the sunnas before the obligatory prayer cut the Devil from his greed, it is by their causing him to say ‘He didn’t leave what is not obligatory on him so how can he leave what is obligatory?’ [ Radd al-Muhtar `ala al-Durr al-Mukhtar, 1:452, Bulaq]

Ibn ‘Abidin explains, quoting the great Shafi`i faqih, Ibn Hajr al-Haytami, that the sunnas make up for the deficiency by standing the steed, in the next life, of obligatory prayers missed for excuses such as forgetfulness [s: though these prayers must still be made up].

There are a number of sunna prayers associated with each of the obligatory prayers.

Some of these are confirmed sunnas and some are non-confirmed sunnas.

A confirmed sunna (sunna mu’akkada) is something the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) invariably did, leaving only occasionally. One is rewarded for doing it and deserves blame for leaving it without excuse. It is sinful to persistently leave it.

A non-confirmed sunna (sunna ghayr mu’akkada) is something the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) did occasionally. There is a reward for doing it and no blame or sin for leaving it. [Shurunbulali, Maraqi al-Falah, 116, Maktaba al-‘Ilm al-Hadith]

Asslamulaikum,

Dear Sister!

Let me try to make it clear.

Astute has already mentioned the differnce b/w them. Let me highlight

it for you more.

Method of Offering Farz Prayer:

Actually Farz " Obligatory" are the prayers made as individual obligation on every human being ( Muslims) five times a day. It is to be offered even if a man is in a condition of dying, at that time it must be offered by "Beckoning" Ishara".
The method in a Four Raka'ts Farz prayer is as follows:
firstly" Intention/Niyat",(NIYAT KARTA HON IKHLAS K SATH 4 RAKAA'T FARZ QATAII NAMAZ PARHNE KI HAZIR WAQT(Anytime from Morning to evening) KHAS ALLAH TAALA TERE LIYE MUn MERA QIBLA KI TARAF ALLAH-O-AKBAR:.
after that,
"SUBHANA KALLA HUMMA WA-BIHAMDIKA WA-TABARAKUSMU KA WA-TAALA JADU-KA WA-LAAILAHA GHAIRUK"
After that" AUZUBILLAH-E-MINA SHAITANI-R-RAJEEM, BISMILLAH-E-RAHMAN-R-RAHEEM" After it " SURAH FATIHA" And after it a Surah, or only 3 Ayats. Then Rakuh and then twice Sajda.
After the completion of First Rakaa't, when one goes to the initial setup, He is not supposed to start it from the beggining rather only "BISMILLAHI-R-RAHMAN-R-RAHEEM" Surah Fatiha and another Surah".
Then Rakuh, and then twice Sajda. After prostraiting twice in the second Rakaa't one is supposed to sit to read the following" ATTAHIYATU LILLAHI WASALAWATU WA-TAIBATU-ASSLAMULAIKA AYUHANABIYU WA-RAHMATULLAHI WA-BARAKATU, ASSLAMULAINA WA-ALLA IBBADALLAHI-SAALIHEEN, ASH-HADU-ALLAH ILAHA ILLALLAHU WA-ASH-HADU-ANNA MUHAMADDAN ABDUHU WA-RASULUH". After it one has to stand again.
In the last 2 Rakaa'ts only Surah Fatiha is read nothing more.
It is the easiest way to explain the method of offering the Farz prayer.

Method of offering the Sunnah prayer:

The same procedure as mentioned above but few changes are as follows.
1) The only differnce in Intention/Niyat is that" 4 RAKAA'T SUNNAT TARIQA RASOOL KE MUTABIQ"
2) In the 3 and 4 rakaa't After Surah Fatiha one is supposed to read Another complete surah or just 3 Ayats.

Method of offering the Nafal Prayer:

The same procedure as mentioned above, few changes are as under.

1) Same Niyat/intention but instead of Farz or sunnah rather Nafal.
2) In the 3rd and 4th Rakaa's After Surah Fatiha one is supposed to read another complete surah as mentioned before Sunnah prayer.

Hope it is clear, (Actually Intention/Niyat is translated from Pashto, blunders may be there in urdu).

Comments are warmly welcomed.

Dear sister hope it is clear now.

Note: All the methods mentioned are for 4 Rakaa'ts of Farz, Nafal and Sunnah prayers.

Regards..

do me anther favour!

plz tell me my offering criteria is right or not?

i always read "sunnah gair mokada(not-confirmed sunnah)" as

1- after 2 rakat i read drood and then dua
after that start 3rd rakat from subhanaka ALLAH ........and read as u had mentioned

and same procedure for nafal

FOR CONFIRMED SUNNAH(sunnah mokada)

i read tash.had and then start 3rd rakat from subhanak ALLAH and read as u had mentioned

Nahi ravaila 3rd rakat does not start with SUBHANA KALLA HUMMA. it starts with BISMILLAH-E-RAHMAN-R-RAHEEM then start SURAH FATIHA. the same applies to the 4th rakat.

After 2nd sajda recite only this ATTAHIYATU LILLAHI WASALAWATU WA-TAIBATU-ASSLAMULAIKA AYUHANABIYU WA-RAHMATULLAHI WA-BARAKATU, ASSLAMULAINA WA-ALLA IBBADALLAHI-SAALIHEEN, ASH-HADU-ALLAH ILAHA ILLALLAHU WA-ASH-HADU-ANNA MUHAMADDAN ABDUHU WA-RASULUH, whether it is farz, sunnah or nafl (jo 4 rakat ky hoon).

For 2 rakat namaz (farz, sunnah and nafl) recite darood shareef and dua (after those mentioned in 2nd paragraph) and then salam.

You got the point?Any more question?

For your ease i have found this website for you.
http://muslim-canada.org/salaat.html

Majority of the people offer Tashahhud just by reciting ATTAHIYATU LILLAHI WASALAWATU WA-TAIBATU-ASSLAMULAIKA AYUHANABIYU WA-RAHMATULLAHI WA-BARAKATU, ASSLAMULAINA WA-ALLA IBBADALLAHI-SAALIHEEN, ASH-HADU-ALLAH ILAHA ILLALLAHU WA-ASH-HADU-ANNA MUHAMADDAN ABDUHU WA-RASULUH. however Prophet SAW has recited darood shareef (may be occassionaly) after 2 rakat in a 4 rakat prayer.Reference Tafseer ahsan ul bayan, al ahzaab ayat 56's explanation wa safah salaat-un-Nabi SAW lal-bani.
