Islam Invite to the Way of your Lord with wisdom and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better. Truly, your Lord knows best who has gone astray from His Path, and He is the Best Aware of those who are guided." Holy Qur'an 16:125

Default Sunnahs Before Going To Sleep.

SUNAN AL NAWM (SLEEP)

1. Sleeping on Wudoo`.

The Prophet, sallallahu 'alayhi wa salam told al-Baraa` bin 'Aazib, radiallahu 'anh, If you go to your bed, then do your wudoo` (ablution) as you would do it for prayer, then lie on your right"

[Muslim Book 35, Number 6544:Bukhari :: Book 8 :: Volume 75 :: Hadith 323.]

2. Cleaning The Bed
*Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as say- ing: When any
one of you goes to bed, he should take hold of the hem of his lower garment and then
should clean (his bed) with the help of that.
[AGREED UPON Muslim :: Book 35 : Hadith 6554, Bukhari. Wordings are of Muslim]

* If one of you rises from his bed and then returns to it he should dust it with the edge of his garment three times for he does not know what has occurred in his absence.
[Bukhari, Muslim]

3. PLACING RIGHT HAND UNDER CHEEKThe Prophet (sal-Allaahu 'alayhe wa sallam) would place his right hand under his cheek when about to sleep
[ABU DAOOD, MUSNAD HANBAL]

4.DUA BEFORE GOING TO SLEEP
Bi'ismikallah-huma- Amootu Wa Ahya
[Bukhari,Muslim]It is among the many duas narrated from Prophet saw. I picked the one beacause it would be easy to memorize it.

5.RECITING AYATUL KURSI
The Prophet (sal-Allaahu 'alayhe wa sallam) also said: ‘When you are about to sleep recite Aayah-ul-Kursee till the end of the Aayah for there will remain over you a protection from Allaah and no devil will draw near to you until morning.’

[BUKHARI 5010]

6. Reading Soorat al-Ikhlaas, al-Falaq and an-Naas before sleeping:

From 'Aishah radiallahu 'anha, the Messenger, sallallahu 'alayhi wa salam used to recite "Qul huwallahu ahad", "Qul a'oothu birrabilfalaq" and "Qul a'oothu birrabinnaas" every night when he went to sleep, then wiped his face and whatever he was able from his body, beginning with his head and face, and what faces him from his body, three times".

[al-Bukhaari: 5017]

7. Doing takbeer and tasbeeh when going to sleep:

'Ali, radiallahu 'anh narrates that the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu 'alayhi wa salam said when Faatimah asked him for a servant, "Shall I not lead you to that which is better for you than a servant? If you go to your mattresses, or rest to sleep, then say Allahu Akbar thirty-four times, and say subhaan Allah thirty-three times, and say alhamdulilah thirty-three times, for they are better for you than having a servant"

[Agreed upon]

8. RECITING THE LAST TWO VERSES OF SURAH BAQRA
The Prophet (sal-Allaahu 'alayhe wa sallam) also said: ‘Whoever recites the last two Aayahs of Soorah al-Baqarah at night, those two Aayahs shall be sufficient for him .’
[Agreeed upon]

9. Supplicating when awoken in night from sleep:

لا إلهَ إلاّ اللّهُ وَحْـدَهُ لا شَـريكَ له، لهُ المُلـكُ ولهُ الحَمـد، وهوَ على كلّ شيءٍ قدير، سُـبْحانَ اللهِ، والحمْـدُ لله ، ولا إلهَ إلاّ اللهُ واللهُ أكبَر، وَلا حَولَ وَلا قوّة إلاّ باللّهِ العليّ العظيم , رَبِّ اغْفرْ لي

'Ubaadah bin as-Saamit, radiallahu 'anh narrates that the Prophet, sallallahu 'alayhi wa salam said: "Anyone awoken in the night and says: Laa ilaha illa Allah, wahdahu laa shareeka lah, lahul-mulku walahul hamd, wa huwa 'ala kulli shay`in qadeer, alhamdulilah was-subhaan Allah, wallahu akbar, wa laa hawla wa laa quwata illa billah, then said, Allahumma aghfirli or invoked Allah, he will be answered, and if he does ablution and prays, his prayer will be accepted"

[al-Bukhaari: 1154]

10.Sunnahs On seeing a Good and bad Dream(summary)
Good dream: The righteous dream is from Allaah and the bad dream is from the devil, so if anyone sees something which pleases him then he should only relate it to one whom he loves...’

Summary of what to do upon having a bad dream:

• spit on your left three times.

• Seek refuge in Allaah from Shaytaan and the evil of what you saw three times.

• Do not relate it to anyone.

• Turn and sleep on the opposite side to which you were sleeping on previously.

• If you want Get up and pray if you so desire.
[Muslim]

11. Supplicating once awake with the following supplication:

الحَمْـدُ لِلّهِ الّذي أَحْـيانا بَعْـدَ ما أَماتَـنا وَإليه النُّـشور

Alhamdulilah alathee ahyaanaa ba'da maa amatana, wa ilayhin-nushoor (Praise be to Allah Who granted us life after death, and to Him we will be ressurected)

[al-Bukhaari, 6312, from Huthayfah bin al-Yamaan, radiallahu 'anh]
