Assalam Alaikum,

Inshallah this will be my first contribution in the Islam section, so I will try and make it interesting.

Recently I was watching CNN, and came across some program on Muslims in the Muslim Capital of the Europe, "LONDON," and they also mentioned something of a new project called Olympic Mega Mosque. As an architect, I was impressed with what I heard and saw regarding this new Mosque design, if built it will be one of a kind not only for Europe but in the whole muslim world.

This will be the first modern mosque that I know of, that will be significant because of its sustainable design, and alternate means of energy that it will use to have lesser impact on the enviroment. Techniques and materials will be used that will make it a mildstone in construction with regards to its sustainability.

It will also be the largest of the mosques outside of the muslim world in the WEST, that can hold upto 70,000 people. Not only that, it's location is only blocks away from London Olympic Village of 2012, therefore the organizers are intending to built it by then, for it be able to serve it as Muslim Center, for the Muslim Athletes attending the games. This project is named London Markaz, by Tablighi Jamaat who are sponsoring it through donation from world wide. But by Londoners it is being called Mega Mosque.

Because of its size, and the level of Islamophobia of Europeans towards Muslims in recent years, this mosque is coming under a lot of scrutiny. People are giving all kind bologne to have this proposal blocked and stopped before it begins.

I am just sharing this with you, because I seriuosly was impressed with the design of this project and intent behind it.
