My preparation log - CSS 2020 attempt IA

As the title goes, I'll be making this thread my study log. Will help me stay structured and logical in my studies as well as be a source of feedback for me and viewers (if any).

Diagnosed bad handwriting

log entry #2 dated: 21-6-2019
The medium for CSS is ink and paper. Hence the torso, shoulder girdle, arm and fingers need to be fine-tuned for optimal performance. Being an avid user of the keyboard for noting and writing, I feel I've got bad muscle memory patterns . Such which will be highly unsuited for writing 4 quality questions in 3 hours after excluding outlining/pondering time.
Found these two sites highly helpful.

Will have to incorporate a de-learning 5-10 minute routine for improving writing performance.

I studied "Islam - The Misunderstood Religion Muhammad Qutub" in the context of a 2011 CSS Islamiat question regarding Islamic punishments being savage and; this article https://www.dawn.com/news/664467 clarifying the concept of abortion in Islam. I must say it is difficult to clear CSS with my current rash, erratic mindset towards Islam. Need to work on de-radicalizing and re-learning yet again.
This link also helped providing vital stats and success stories of 'staunch yet progressive' Muslim countries. https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2017/11/muslim-overpopulation-myth/545318/

Our answer should be interesting that should encourage the reader to scold on his kids while reading, no matter how long it is unless relevant and interesting. ;)
English needs some brushing up.
In addition to practicing 100 word re-writes and mini notes, some appliediable knowledge of punctuation needs work on.
Found this site very helpful.
E.g. it tells you the benefits of using a semicolon, where to not use it and commonly made mistakes. In short, brilliant.
.
https://writingcenter.unc.edu/tips-and-tools/semi-colons-colons-and-dashes/
.
Apart from the instructional site above, this helped test my ability to accurately, or rather inaccurately, use armaments from the punctuation arsenal.

.
End of log.

Observation:
people have truckloads of opinions ranging from highly motivating to highly dissuading; always remember to remind yourself why you chose this path and persist regardless, indifferent.

belated.
I was looking for a speed reader app and found this instead.
https://readspeeder.com/
One can sign up and read their dawn articles, thesis pdfs, cssforum articles by copy/pasting them into the 'library' and read it via their 'concentration/speed-booster interface'. But this only improves speed if you really follow the instructions and make an effort at focusing. As for what reading faster entails and where it gets you? No one will find that hard to answer
.......................
Time to get started with the syllabus now, I seem to be having enough 'soft skill tools' to see me through. I wonder if Public Ad will be targeted in 2020...

Speed vs comprehension

log entry #6 dated: 25-6-2019.
belated.
P.S. the previous was log entry 5. This is 6.
----------------------------------------
Speed reading is fun and all but I need to make steady gains in my vocabulary base as well. And that comes from memory; whacky, memorable memory.
This site is handy for providing illustrations for words searched. It's like a picture dictionary. Text only dictionaries just don't cut it, unless they've got a ton of sentences to elaborate and expand on the 'feel' of the word too. One such site I found is https://sentence.yourdictionary.com/scrupulous.
..........
Apart from soft skills, found a must read article for GS students and everyone in general. Couldn't resist sharing a mini-excerpt, a beautiful test and distinction, a testament to the writer's clarity, knowledge and alacrity of expression: Freedom has a certain Islamic responsibility whereas in the West freedom tends to degenerate into licentiousness, not in law but certainly in social and cultural practices.
Islam and feminism.

here's for the first entry of the month.

Came across this article on tribune. Tribune articles are more engaging and relevant for me. https://tribune.com.pk/story/2003632/6-trumps-unpredictably-iran-affair/

Shortly thereafter, strayed into these sites:
https://www.timemaps.com/history/turkey-1871ad/
https://www.quora.com/Why-is-there-conflict-between-Saudi-Arabia-and-Iran
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran%E2%80%93Saudi_Arabia_proxy_conflict#History
.
All in all, found out about the Ikhwan, Saudi expansion and success among the other tribes, how the Ottomon Empire fared and Kemal Attaturk abolishing the sultanate in 1922 and death in 1938.
And why Iran's 1979 revolution caused discomfiture among Gulf states running Monarchs and having sizeable Shia populations. And how that might figure in today's impending (may God forbid) US-Iran clash.
