Purpose of 'EDUCATION'

I believe that purpose of Education is to bring a relative permanent positive CHANGE in the behavior of individuals. But it has also been observed that this positive change is hardly found in us. What members of this forum would comment that who is responsible for our negative behaviors??????????

1. Teachers
2. Student themselves
3. Our Curriculum

WE are responsible for this and when I talk about WE it means, we as teachers and we as students, or we in any other walk of life....

when we are teachers, we donot perform our duty well enough, I read at lot of places when writers quote their teachers at many places but these days none of the student have their teachers as their role models...why this happens...it happens because teachers are not sincere with their professions...

and when we are students, we always try to get marks by unfair means, at some places through cheating and at some places by unfair means...today we call those students mad who are sincere with their studies, I know one person in my class, he never cheats..and if some one asked him he said that he is answerable to Allah thats why he wont help...and when paper ends other students make fun of his doings..that he is living in fool's paradise...

same is the case in all other fields, as we are unable to complete our student era honestly, same we do with our professional fields..in which we become teacher, doctors, engineers, accountants etc..in whole of our professional life we do what we learn in our school or student life....

So, this is we who are responsible for all this that we are unable to get, what actually we have to, from the Education...

Just correct ourselves than we definitely are good to go...and everything will become fine..

And what about the curriculum which is being taught? Don't you think our Curriculum is out-dated, it needs to be revised?? Don't you think there is dire need of change in Curriculum? It should be designed and implemented in a way that it must depict our moral values and society.

definitely its outdated, but the question is why it is still outdated, then the same answer comes that we in our fields are not sincere with our duties, the people who are responsible to bring change in the syllabus are not performing their duties with honesty...only change in curriculum wont do good, with this we have to correct ourselves too..

when we correct ourselves than automatically everything become in line..

Education has lot of purposes but my focus is on the purpose, which is accepted worldwide i.e to bring a permanent positive change in individual.

What of all, we shall have to define what is education. For me, education is a process by which knowledge is imparted to an individual or a group of individuals.

Ofcourse, how this knowledge is perceived greatly depends upon the mindset of the person. Also, knowing something is completely different than valuing it.

For example, corruption by highly literate people of our society in not uncommon. Despite the level of education that they have, they are still inclined towards such vices. And on the other hand, illiterate Pakistanis living abroard abide by the rules.

Therefore, education does not guarantee freedom from negative behaviours. Although I would agree to the fact the ratio of such (common) vice among literates is rather low (comparatively).

Education is not simply to impart knowledge but it aims at changing behavior also.. So you think WE ourselves are responsible for our negative behaviors and Education has nothing to do with it.

Education is a tool which may facilitate in evaluating whats wrong and whats not. But it would still be upto us to actually refrain from these.

Its just like, we know the repercussions and consequences of violating a traffic signal, yet even the educated among us do that. Such questions still baffle me and render it rather difficult to chalk out the role of education in uplifting the values of our society.

You know, for example in Europe, moving your car over a zebra crossing is certainly frowned upon by passing individual let alone the legitimacy issues.

The question is, if knowing something is bad for us doesnt stop us from doing it then what will?

''Education in the largest sense is any act or experience that has a formative effect on the mind, character or physical ability of an individual.''

according to this defination,
after getting education in Pakistan esp.
we feel a positive change in our ''Physical Ability'' but what of our MENTAL CHANGE and CHARACTER CHANGE....:(
I am so sorry to say that our education system is successful in producing only Machines and nothing else..like we can produce a Good Dr,A GOOD engr or a GOod Lecturer...but are failed to produce gOOD human Being,,,
;and the reason is our old-system of education in which our major emphasis is on getting grades and marks no matter How.
