Is it a good way to first research on the essay topic before writing on it?
 

AoA, wether it is a good way to first research on the essay topic before writing on it? basicaly, i have been given a topic by my teacher as an assignment. Now i am confused that wether i should write my own ideas or to consult some other sources. Do guide me. plz

[B][FONT="Courier New"]First of all you have been assigned a topic so try to make outlines and related ideas should be written separately. If you think that you have enough material to write so write but ideas should be relevant.
Secondly, Essays writing is not just an exam of grammar and vocabulary. It is also exam of good and positive thoughts and finally your own analysis i-e conclusion. So in order to write an essay you have to read periodicals, Articles, magazines and books. Try to enhance your knowledge because only good grammar will not do.

In my personal opinion,one can not merely rely on his previous knowledge. Your practice of writing is to polish your skills and without reading good material you can never be able to write comprehensively.
As for as your assignment is concerned,i would like to say first try to make your points(short notes)....means what you are going to discuss...This rough strategy will lead you while searching relevent material.Search search and search and grasp the central ideas from that material.Don't try ro copy and paste ,just read that material and after reading and searching and writing short points on a rough page give a short break to your mind.Then after an hour or two or even more than that .....start organize your idea.Make a rough draf again and start writing.

"There comes a time to set aside principles and do what is right", that was the topic and i got zero marks just because of weak points despite having fair grammar command and expression style.
